Evenin all,
Im in need of all your experience, my petrol series 3 refuses to start, the engine turns over but the engine wont fire up. Admittedly i haven't started it for about a month or so, but this has never happened before. Any advice?

Do some fault finding;)

No, not even a splutter, iv even wd40'd the points and nothing!! Iv checked the fuel and iv got about half a tank left.

Pull the petrol inlet pipe off the carb and put it into a jar. Crank the engine over and see if fuel comes out of the pipe (mind you don't set it all on fire though!) If that's good, pull the air inlet pipe off the top of the carb, open the chocke, shine a torch down the inside of the carb and open the throttle, petrol should squirt into the venturii. If all that's good check to see if you've got a spark, by pulling out one of the spark plugs, earthing it and cranking the engine over. Three should be a good spark.

Right, i took the inlet pipe off and nothing is coming out, possible reasons???

Do you mean the fuel inlet pipe to the carb? If so then it could be a blocked fuel pick up in the tank, crushed fuel line, broken fuel line, dodgy lift pump (perforated diaphragm), blocked fuel line.

Yh, i did mean the fuel inlet pipe to the carb. So thinking logically, i should be able to rule out a broken fuel line, a blocked fuel line and a crushed fuel as it hasnt been in use. Iv taken the sender unit out and it doesn't seem to be blocked at all, but is there any way i could test it just to be sure?

Take the sediment bowl off the fuel lift pump, clean it out and put it back on. Try pumping the hand lever on the pickup pump. If you're still not getting any fuel through check that none of the pipework or filter is blocked by blowing through each component. Don't assume anything - rats could have chewed pipes - check it's all in good condition, put it all back together and make sure all connections are air tight. Try pumping the fuel through again. If there is still no fuel coming through you're going to have to overhaul the fuel lift pump.

Take out the dipstick and sniff it, if it stinks of petrol then you've a knacked lift pump, if theres half a tank then if you unclip the petrol pipe from the bulkhead and lower it below the engine petrol should wee out, if it doesnt then a blockage is likely, if it does then the pump on is suspect, sometimes petrol can furr up.
The lads here might shout at me but if you have some spray oil, not wd40 but one of the cheaper ones that uses propane as the propellant, then whilst spraying it into the intake the engine should run, this will prove your ignition system, another thing that worked on my mrs's landy after it was stood was to 'pour' about 1/4 spray can lid of petrol down the carb first, not too much or you'll explode the exhaust.
