Hi, I'm about to do some tweeking of my 300 disco (mainly for towing) but would like to add some extra gauges first to keep an eye on whats happening, egt, boost and temp. Sure there must be loads of discos out there with extra gauges any chance of some photos or descriptions of what you have done to yours :D Looked at mud pod but pretty expensive and after something fairly low key, would be nice to relocate radio and use the apature for the gauges but then dont know where to move radio to:confused:
Any ideas

I used a door pillar 3 hole one before and am looking at one to go on the dash where the mudpod goes on ebay , about 15 quid for a 3 holer .

Gauges ? The most useful to my mind are oil pressure and water temp . Voltage you can do with a little LCD in the clock space or the coin tray .

Hi Shocker, not so keen on the pillar mounted, but had looked like you at ones that mount on the top of dash, mud pod seem expensive, which ones are you looking at for £15 that seems more like it. Have already fitted a water temp gauge into the ashtray hole really tight fit but good now its in, plumbed it in an unusual way in that its in the bottom hose looking at the water temp coming out of rad. the reason for this is that I had a lot of overheating problems in the past whilst towing (especially on fast roads) and turned out to be radiator issues, rational with gauge was that if the temp of the water coming out of the rad got too high the engine would cook pretty quickly, and it works a treat. most of the time it pretty well sits on the stop (cold) but get it working hard particularly at speed with trailer and you can watch the temp rise, its never exceeded 80c to date (remember thats not engine temp but water returning into the engine) Anyway its a bit flat towing so plan to tweek a little and suppose boost could be a temporary gauge as just want to see if all is well before I do anything. and then egt, water temp to replace silly standard fit super usless one and may be oil

ive thought of taking the dash top pod out of a mitsy l200 before now comes complete with a clock temp gauge land meter and volt meter could be worth a gander

Think this would be good but what to do with radio (how do you copy link, sorry for beeing a dope) Item number: 320720988826
must look at l200

well managed to get hold of a gauge pod for the top of the dash and Ive got gauges. Ill have a go this weekend.
question, behind the rubber mat on top of the dash there is a thin strip vent!!! does it actually do anything?? no air seems to come out of it no matter where you move the controls to. Is it for a different model or is mine bust/blocked. reason I'm asking is the pod looks better if you push it back over the vent thing? but other pods (mudpods) I've seen fitted they push them forward to expose the vent behind it.

It's the Screen demister..

sorry for sounding stupid but doesn't the vent across the dash, bottom of the screen do that.
I'm talking about the one same length as the little rubber mat in the center (top) of the dash. definitly looks like a vent and you can poke a wire down a couple of the slots/holes but i've even put a little bit of tissue paper on top of it and had the blower going full belt and moved the heater control to all the diffrent positions and 'nothing' !!! all other vents work great!! it it just cosmetic or has something come adrift.

OOH dunno then Am sure mine works?? Could be for Aircon I suppose??? :whoosh:

I'll have to take the radio out anyway to run wires/pipe so I'll have a look then. Oh no air con on mine.
Agree it really does look like a vent, but as I say nowt comes out!
when does yours work and do the big demister vents blow the same time!!!!

would be a handy place to run the wires without drilling the dash and I think the pod looks better slightly closer to the screen.

as said in my previous post thats where i run my wires from the pod as the vent looking strip did'nt do anything on mine either.

Never noticed it do anything on any of mine either....possibly vent for radio heatsink ..??

I use them for running cables to reverse alarms or gauges through....dead handy !

wondered about vent for radio.
Well got pod and cut 4 gauge holes in it, still small space for a switch x2 or something not enough for another gauge but 4 is kind of too many anyway, starting to look daft.
at the minute I'm putting egt, boost and 2x water gauges (one in head and one in bottom hose return from rad) after I've played with fuel pump settings and I'm happy its not going to cause problems overheating when towing I might swap gauges about a bit. Will crack on with wiring and piping tomorow and try and post pic of results.

yep vent for radio, had it all stripped out this afternoon.
all connected dash end and tidy just got egt probe, boost pipe and one temp sender to fit, pipework done in engine bay. thinking egt into egr blank and wondering about the same for boost pipe (obviously other end) mine still has the top intercooler pipe with connection for egr valve and thought it would be quite easy to make a fitting to fit gauge pipe, its almost at the inlet manifold then. whats your thoughts!!
also was going to replace the standard temp sender and do away with gauge in dash, but wondering if it would be a good idea to use the one half way down the head, think its for the redundant egr valve. Again any thoughts.
