i bought a freelander TD4 05 last year with a years warranty from a main landrover dealer. The car has been into the garage 5 times with central locking replaced twice, front suspension arm replaced, and a new gearbox because a main bearing went, and landrover couldn'd find a replacement so had to put a new gearbox in.
The car only has 25000 miles on the clock now, and 17000 when i bought it.
The car previously had only had services done - nothing else needed.

We are now considering purchasing an extended warranty which will cost us £565 for another year.

If we buy the warranty can we take our car to be serviced at another garage or does it have to be a landrover garage?

Yo have to have it serviced by the book using parts of the correct specification. They cannot insist on genuine parts, provide the parts use meet the specifications. Similarly you can use any reputable garage. The measure of if they are reputable is are they VAT registered.
Of course, if yu are seriously worried about warranty work, it may be worth building/keeping up a relationship with the dealer.

It maybe worthwhile getting an RAC type full check of the vehicle to see if there are any hidden issues waiting to surface.

The AA do cover that will cover the cost of the repair as well as the recovery, expensive, but cheaper than the extended warranty. Check the small print carefully first though, especially about pre-existing conditions.
