Have a Vogue 4.4 L322 which is 4 years old and has 25k on the clock, last year I paid £1500 for a 1 year extension which is about to run out. Although I was able to claim for a new mirror, front diff and prop shaft making it good value are there other companies I can approach.

Have to say been very pleased with the car, only now am I needing to replace the tyres

ANy help much appreciated

Nick

Normally, extended warranties arn't worth the paper they're printed on, LR approved warranty is your best bet.

Tend to agree with Clutchdust. 3rd party warranties tend to put clauses in such as you having to have it serviced more regularly than the service schedule for you to remain covered - if you fall foul of these clauses they won't pay out. If you insist on using someone else, Warranty Direct is the only one that springs to mind instantly. If you can afford it, I'd strongly suggest going for the LR one, if not - check exactly what 3rd party warranties cover (or more importantly DON'T cover!) and take a careful look at the terms and conditions for any special conditions they impose.

A car is actually just about the only thing that an extended warranty is worth the money on.

Thanks for the replies

Have just contacted warranty direct who are sending quote with all the paperwork for their Gold service. Looks like I'll have to read and compare the small print with my current LR extended warranty.

Price wise one is almost 50% of the other

Hi, I have just been refused a claim for a new front prop shaft and front diff splines on my td6 on an RAC warranty. How did you manage to claim?Mine says its not covered as it is "wear and tear".
Cheers Cowmantoday.

Regards the front diff claim, on the RR there was a recall early last year which was checked and passed, it seems they felt on mine when it had the problem late last year, that they had both failed due to fault rather than wear and tear, however mine is a LR warranty.

One of the reasons why I am concidering paying the extra and sticking with them. The warranty cost me £1500 but well worth it.

I have looked at both the covers, seems WD do not cover SatNav or stereos if if fitted as standard, but they will cover certain wear and tear such as wheel bearings and water pumps.

I'm now in a quandary whether the extra £700 is worth it, as LR may also decline a claim just as WD can.

Hi Nick
How quickly will you go past that figure in your personal time sorting it out, not to mention parts and labour if something major goes wrong ? If you've got the £700 get the lr warranty. When we did my dads it covered the mot i'm sure.

Cheers Nick.

Nick

I seem to be thinking along the same lines as you, you are right regarding the MOT however for my point of view it was likely to cost more to travel to and from the dealer for this so paid £48 yesterday 2 minutes round the corner.

The car is in for some warranty rust work on the A-pillars next week so will make my decision by then. Anyway £700 less 40% tax relief doesn't sound too bad

Hi.
Having thought about it some more you just need to get it, it saves all the hassle. I definately would. It's why i bought a new engine instead of reconing the poorly bits, you get it fixed, the old part brakes killing the reconditioned part blah blah......its all just to much grief when you need to be driving down sunny lanes in the summer!

Cheers, Nick.

Hi All,

I heard through the grape vine today that the Company which supports the Land Rover warranties were pulling the plug on the scheme due to the costs involved in fixing these fine British machines. But its not just land rover is the jeep brand as well.

Not sure how true it is but might be worth a bit of investigation.

Has anyone else heard this?

My mate works for a Chrysler/Jeep dealership.

He heard that rumour 4 months ago, turns out its true!!!!!

But not until 2009:D

Hi
I have an extended warranty with Warranty Direct. I paid about £700 for the GOLD one. I have claimed a couple of time (prob around £500 in all so far - the policy runs out in July). They've been OK to deal with but there are restrictions on the hourly rate they'll pay so you will end up forking out some of the costs yourself. At least for any real costly work needed, it's something to help you taking the full hit. The way I looked at it is that 2yrs with Warranty Direct is eqivlent cost to 1yr with LR and with those kind of odds I thought I'd opt for the "up front cheaper option" and take my chances.

I take your point regarding the hourly cost, I was unaware that you would still have to pay in addition to the initial one off payment.

This morning I collected my car from the dealer and at the same time paid a shade under £1500 to extend the warranty to coincide with it lapsing in a weeks time, it also includes LR assist in that price.

Hi Nick
I pay £200 a year for LR Assist so I suppose when you add the £700 for Warranty Direct, an extra £600 for a LR warranty doesn't seem such a bad idea. Maybe thats what I'll do when my policy expires.
Thanks

That is the view I took, WD quoted £850 for my 02 Vogue L322, so we were looking at £1050 verses £1500, so for the extra £450 I feel sticking with LR was worth it, especially as I have had experience with them with the failure of the front diff and prop.

I am just buying a RR sport and will be looking for a warranty, been told to stay away from warranty direct.

Holy Thread Resurraction Batman....

WD have been known to be a little lacklustre when it comes to the Range Rover....as every bill will be ridiculously extortionate and if you read the small print, a lot of the complex systems on the Range Rover and Sport are seldom covered to any great extent!

LR Warranties are very good if you can wrangle one!

Private purchase, LR Dealer, Indy or a Car Sales Garage ype place that deal with all sorts of other vehicles!!??

I took my 'new ' l322 into my local dealer and paid for the inspection. 21/2 hrs for £120.

they will then come back with a report and advise if they will take it on under warrentee and if there is any work to do prior.

I did the £120, no issues found and didn't take the warrantee. (kept the money in the bank)

I thought this was a good compromise.
