Hi guys so I've almost got the disco back up and running after a long time. I've come across this pipe which would explain the coolant leak I had before but couldn't find. Where does it go too??
 
Nowhere, it pokes down towards the ground. Its to let out coolant that gets past the cap
 
The pipe in your hand is the one that's supposed to go the radiator. The other pipe is the one that's supposed to point down.
I'm not sure if them being the wrong way around makes any difference though.

+1 for that^^^^ with the addendum that it's not OK to be the wrong way around as the return hose which comes from tha radiator goes below the cap's o-ring to be flow all the time while the overflow pipe(nr 2) goes from above the seal as it's supposed to let air or coolant out when the pressure exceeds 1'4 bar to open the cap's valve if you see what i mean

so mr @Rsturbo swap those pipes ASAP

I've just seen this. Does that explain why when I've just started it now why it's leaking out of the cap??
 
Yes it does cos the return flow goes above the seal not below it back into the tank
So I've done that thanks. So I do have a problem with the heating. That there is none. I've changed the water pump (pig of a job) and changed the thermostat still blowing cold and it's been running for 40 mins

I do have a problem with the heating. That there is none. I've changed the water pump (pig of a job) and changed the thermostat still blowing cold and it's been running for 40 mins
To blow warm the coolant must be hot as well and as the gauge on your's is below the middle the coolant is not warm enough, the needle should go to the middle at 70*C while the heater core can be clogged as well... if it ran for 40 minutes at idle that means nothing if it's cold outside, a Td5 at idle would never get hot enough... though try to stop the viscous fan with a rolled up newspaper after a cold start and if you can't that's another reason for hard warming up.

The temp has never reached half way since we've had it. Il try to stop the viscous fan some how.

So you didnt drive it hard since then? .... then don't expect the the heater to blow warm unless the temp sensor is fubar

If you can't stop the fan with cold engine means that it's locked solid so you need a new one which is freewheeling and locks only when the radiator is hot

No it's been of the road for a bit. So took the opportunity to change a few things i.e water pump and thermostat hoping that would sort the issue out. I will try that with the viscous fan and report back tomorrow at some point
