Hi guys!

Took my Landy for his first outing over Salisbury plain yesterday - my first time offroading as a driver so was pretty good fun! Became aware of a knocking at the back over the really bumpy terrain, and when I got underneath once I got home it looks like the exhaust is loose at the back and knocking against other parts. Not sure whether it may have come loose from a bracket or something...I'm not mechanically minded so it's all a bit hazy for me! Now I don't have the means myself to begin to try to sort it out - unfortunately I'm going to have to do the girlie thing and find a 'man who can' whenever I get issues - but what I want to know is whether it is something I need to get dealt with soon (ie. is it likely to cause other problems) or whether it's just a case of putting up with the noise until I can afford to get it fixed. :)

Second question - my Landy was sold without a spare wheel, although the rear door has all the holes where a bracket was once in place. I have heard that carrying a spare on the back causes the hinges of the door to drop, and that this is most likely why it was taken off - would that be the case? I'm keen to get a spare put on - have a mate who is trying to acquire one for me - and I'd rather it go on the back door as it does look rather scrappy with gurt big 'oles in it at the moment! Also - does anyone know where I can get hold of the bracket for it to be mounted on the back door?

Many thanks in advance :cool::p

With regards to the loose exhaust, all that is likely to happen if you don't secure it is it will eventually fracture and fall off. The exhaust is usually connected to the chassis via a couple of rubber mounts and it might just be a case thatthe rear one has come off and needs refitting.

I had a similar problem with my Discovery last year but in my case both the mounts were broken - rusted through - leaving the whole length of the exhause unsupported. I remedied the problem by making some "temporary" hangers from stainless steel wire wrapped around the exhaust pipe and original hanger mounts on the chassis. I'd completely forgotten about it until the MOT tester commented on the "custom" mounts :D

Can't help with the spare wheel mount but first place I'd look would be eBay.

Cheers, DiscoJoe - I might get underneath later and see if I can rig something up! :)

iv got a wheel mount :) or you could just keep it flat in boot,

I'd rather have it on the back than in the back - looks tidier!! Are you happy to sell yours then? How much are you asking for it? :)

Like has been said, exhaust if probably just a loose/broken bracket.
For the spare wheel, get yourself a swingaway wheel carrier, it'll cover up the holes in the door, as well as transfer all the weight onto the crossmember and save your hinges.;);)
