Just wondering what you guys had one to modify the exhaust system in your freelanders?
My silencer is on its way out so I was thinking about options for what it can be replaced with, or is it better keeping it standard? I'm liking the idea of a straight pipe but wasn't sure about noise levels, has anyone done this and if so is it much louder?
Cheers,
Phoebe

Standard is the cheaper option. while modifying routes mean a trip to the insurance cash machine cow to alter the docs.

If replacing the back box, I'd give serious thought to have a custom one made. You can't drive with the rear window down because the exhaust gas is recirculated into the car.

Not keen on carbon monoxide myself.

Perhaps a rear/side exit design?

Glad you said that cos that's exactly what I get - but others recon it doesn't happen on their cars.

Bit like wheel spin in 2WD, I don't get it, others do.

Another of those Marmite type characteristics of the Freelander!

Lol maybe GG

I'm thinking of a transverse back box on the standard location, smaller diameter perhaps (more clearance) and an exit to the side of the car, dehind the rear wheel...

Someone may have do e it already?

for the td4 .. a straight thru back-box works well
and it's not too noisy .. just about right if one likes listening to the motor at work
i'd like a side-exit exhaust .. rekon i'd have it just in front of the ns rear wheel
( although having the cab fan on 3 or 4 does seem to work at deflecting exhaust ingress
( when the rear window is wide open

In hot weather it would be nice to have some air flow in the back or the dog. Even in not so hot weather, it would be nice to try and get rid of wet dog smells if he's been in water!

yeah .. +1 at that ..

I have a straight through back box. Makes a huge difference to the torque available, for a small increase in sound output. Oh. It increases ground clearance at the rear too.

Where did you get yours from? did you make it yourself?
Made it myself from a selection of stainless exhaust parts. The silencer is a 500mm straight through box with 57mm bore. The 90° elbow is 57mm OD trimmed to make it fit the body.
U used the clamps, modified into hangers to fix it in the position I waned it.
It works well, fits well and should outlast the car.
