Noticed some exhaust fumes coming in, mostly when stationary. Have had the heater box out recently could it be the foam "seal" between air intake tube and the fan housing? Foam between box and bulkhead is good.
Guess I should check all exhaust joints first for leaks.

You checked the bulkhead under the heater box for holes? known but hidden corrosion spot.

Driving a hard top with just a tailgate and no top flap is a NO NO. You can guess how I know this.

No different to a full tilt with the back rolled up. Which is probably every full tilt Land Rover has ever made, including loads of military ones.

Have driven full tilt myself and there was no issue but tried it with my full hard top as above one hot summer [long ago] and it was awful.

It's on my TD5, easy to change the gaskets on the centre pipe. They are just a flat gasket where the flange bolts together, might even put a bit of sealer on it for good measure. Will have a look at the manifold also while I'm at it.

Bet you have warped manifold and cyl one or six is leaking at the joint
