LOL, the vague steering I've had a little taste of yesterday ! (My wife's gonna hate it !) Looking forward to driving over something though. Also, I need to gently ask about those multi-coloured gear sticks !!! LOL. Fortunately, this beast has 11 months MOT on it so at least I don't have to rush into the knowledge gathering mode. Oh how nice it feels to owna a vehicle that can weld to without ruining it's appearance

l remember when l got my first landy, a s11a diesel, after getting it home l dumped out the front and didn't go near it for the best part of a week, but after that you couldn't get me out of it.

One thing that you can be sure of is that an 11 month MOT will not remove the requirement for a quick assimilation of knowledge. Mine had 12 months when I collected it. After the 800 mile drive home it became clear that I had better learn to service it PDQ including tappets mixture etc. Then the brakes felt a little fuzzy; two rear hub seals later and all was well. I'm now just waiting on the suspension chassis bushes to arrive and then I'll renew the sesspension complete. Then there's the exhaust, then the..................

Like Rich though half the problem is I just drive it because I can. Best vehicle I have ever owned.

WOW !, just got it home after an hour's drive. I thought I was holding everyone up and I thought the seller had sold me an extra slow one because I could only reach 40mph ! Then, when home, my wife (who was following me) said 'didn't realise it went 60 !'. My speedo is duff LOL. Then we couldn't resist the off-road bit. So went down a local track to take the dog for a walk (any excuse ey) and wow, those leaf springs don't really spring do they? anyway, the family pet should recover in a few days. A bit of blue smoke out the back and one of the injectors seems to be 'wet' but apart from that, it's a beasty. The most money I've ever spent on a car and it turns out to be the oldest, roughest car I've ever spent money on - cool.

You asked about the different coloured levers? Well, the yellow one presses down. This engages four wheel drive (make sure you turn the FWH first if you have them). Then there is the red one. This engages your low ratio gears. When you do this, the yellow one pops back up, but don't worry, you're still in four wheel drive. (make sure you go back to two wheel drive when on the road) Oh, and the FWH don't put it in four wheel drive they just help your fuel consumption but dis-engaging the wheels from eveything else.

They are the dogs nads. There's not a vehicle on the road that makes me smile, or cry, as much. Brakes are now binding on and the brake pedal pressure is very inconsistent - not good. Still it gives me something else to do while I renew the suspension.

Aha ! That's great, that's the kinda advice I'll never be tired of ! Took the kids down bumpy dirt track in it the other day and they absolutely loved it. I just need to get the wife to be able to drive it without having a nervous breakdown at Tesco's roundabout (like she did the other day) and just abandon the thing mid-road like ! LOL I had to jump in the now-vacant driving seat and take over. (I didn't stop laughing for an hour). Anyway, off now to find a new speedo and how to change it. I'll take a look at Jon's Dumping ground.
