Hello All,
I think that one of the hydraulic lifters in my wifes diesel Evoque is faulty. What is involved in replacing them.

Tut tut tut you're very brave. Pending on the age it worth seeking specialist.
is nothing sacred.gif

With modern design and engineering processes theses type of engine failure should not happen at all, engines should do 200k with oil changes, with out problems:(

It is a 2014 2.0 diesel.
Hi there, sounds like lack of oil changes or a spate of low quality parts used by the engine manufacturers.
Depending in whether or not it's a chain driven or belt driven engine.
If it's on a belt, normally you would do the timing belt and pulleys as well, never refit an old belt. A full set of followers to add and an oil and filter change. Any small stretch bolts, camshaft shells if needed or found to be worn.
Injector washers, upper cover gasket kit.
Last note, check the lobes on the camshafts as well. There was a period when the treatment used in some makes where the lobes would round off and damage the followers... Vw/audi was the top favorite...

The trouble with modern design is that university trained engineers with no practical experience design engines and omit little things like the tangs on the bearing shells that stop the shells rotating in the housing and shutting off oil flow.

Have you read about the Tesla owner that was quoted €22,000 to fix his car? He took the motor & battery out to sell on and blew up the remains in an old quarry. Half the price of a new car to fix a car that was I think 5 years old and just out of warranty:eek:
Believe it was in Norway. There is a video of it on the net
