Ok I am about to etch prime certain parts of series 3 , mostly bare metal ,
some filler , am I right in thinking that if I , sand slightly , etch prime , and then spray normal primer to cover it within the hour then it doesnt need to be painted , currently looks awful just thought this would tidy it up a bit until I paint it in approx a month , however heard etch primer needs to be covered almost immeditely and wondered whether primer was sufficient.

I think all primers absorb moisture. Best give it a thinned top coat.
Be careful with the etch primer where it meets the old paint lifted the old paint on mine.

Primer will absorb moisture and will need a top coat As soon as it's dry

All I done was acid etch then top coat, no extra primer was used, looking at old original Land Rovers, it looks like it was done this way from factory.

I do agree with above though, acid etch prime will lift most paint it's applied to, etch primer is best put on bare metal, or test first. The primer is ready for over painting within an hour in current summer temperatures.

are we talking primer you would use on the chassis, or primer for automiotive top coats?

our primer has been on a crane, not overcoated for the last 18 years, and still good. but its not the ideal primer for finished panels etc, unless you like terracotta?
