Hi all I have had a disco 1 300TDI now for over a year when i brought it it had 128000 miles on the clock I do not know how it was used before I got it, in the year that i have had it there is not a problem at the moment. I use it most days and have been towing a caravan for 3 times in the year it has now done 140000 is it about the time for a new one

If it int broke. .............. don't fix it. you'll get plenty of warning that it starting to go.

They will last along time. Depends who the driver is have seen them burn up in 20,000 miles and have seen them last 500,000miles

If not broken no need to replace
 
When working at Scania saw a truck clutch, because of operator error, last less than 40 miles.
 
Like the man says, it'll tell you when it needs replacing. One of the first signs is a rattling from the clutch area that changes tone, or disappears, when you put your foot on the clutch.
 
That would be the thrust bearing. I think it's possible for a clutch to outlast a vehicle when used carefully.
 
well thanks guys as you say if it an't broke well it drives fine at the moment the only reason I asked is because it engages right at the top of the pedal.
all I have to worry about is the clonk when releasing the clutch aand now you are going to say the transfer box.hehe

Clutch slave cylinder??????????/
 
The clunking could be a combination of all the slack in your drive train being taken up. Worn splines on shafts, intermediate bearing, drive flanges etc.
 
I don't get your point. I'm commenting on the aforementioned clunk. It's not likely to be related to the pedal travel. I've done 60000 miles on a clutch that bites at the top.

Or **** poor driving :D:D

I have a customer with an M reg 300Tdi Disco owned from new, done 190k and still on the same clutch, engine, drive train, not even had a prop or u/j replaced.
 
well that solve that problem the slave cylinder went right through the arm of the clutch. And ended up on the back of an AA truck. Glad I had AA repair insurance So while it was being replaced had a new clutch fitted but the old one it still had some life in it

As long as the new type reinforced clutch fork was used ... :cool:
