I might have the chance of getting another 88", hasnt got an engine in and the guy wants to scrap it. Thinking of offering a bit over scrap value, anyone got an estimate on what that'll be?
 
About £75 a tonne at the mo. unless he strips it completely and sorts it into separate metals. but it won't be much more.
 
Put a reg into one of the online scrappy-quote engines. It depends on how far they'd have to come to collect.

As a ballpark, I was offered £150ish for a LWB Shogun (two-anna-snidge ton) a month or two back, collected from rural Herefordshire (about a 40 mile round trip to the yard).
 
depends what condition it is in and how badly you want it I guess, if the chassis and bh are good it might be worth offering a little more say up to £300.

if you had an idea of what engine you would put in, how much the engine would cost and what it would be worth with the engine, then subtract the cost of the engine from your idea of the value. If that is only £100 then just offer that. Bit more complex but it would also give you a good idea of whether its worth taking it on. Resto's seem to be a labour of love more than anything else but you shouldn't want something that's worth less than you paid

Chassis is gone and bulkheads going. Engines out of it but guess who just so happens to have a tdi kicking around the yard :D Bodywork's mint though
 
I weighed in a mazda mpv last week 1800kg I got £220

A series with no motor will be about 1300kg so offer £180 thats over scrap I recon
 
Series 3 weighs 1339kg so without the engine and its ancillaries its looking at just over a tonne I think
 
Its a perkins in this and all the ancillaries have also gone. That weighs in total around 300kg I believe in total

On your basis no one should ever put any modification toys on their landy - they never increase the value by much, nothing close to the cost of parts, let alone labour! Restorations nearly have to be done for the love of it.

I would also never offer £300 for a shell vehicle - we just sold a D1, no engine, dead body, but all transmission in, sold that for £100, maybe i'm just tight, but, £150 would be my upper limit, £200 if the body really is spotless, but, given the rusty chassis and bulkhead, i think it would struggle to get to £200 in my book :rolleyes:
 
Totally agree with what you say about mods, what I put wasn't clear I was trying to say don't overpay for the shell just to have a project, the initial cost of the shell plus a replacement engine (or the value/cost of an engine you already have) shouldn't be more than you could get a similar condition whole vehicle for.

If one adds the cost of one's own labour and the opportunity cost of one's time - if any - there wouldn't be any point getting out of the chair :D
