Why are Discovery doors so bloody hard to adjust.... :(

I have been having to push my shoulder against the passenger door to open it since I had the door off for some sill welding in the Summer, but went out today and it refused to open.

That, combined with something getting caught when opening and closing the window I decided to investigate and try and fix it all.

The catching was a bracket that holds the inner door pull bar tight to the door skin, it was pulled down and broke when I moved it.

I tie wrapped it up as well as the loose central locking wire that was getting caught by the window.

Then I spent a couple of hours adjusting door catches, removing spacers, getting the door stuck shut, thinking that was it a couple of times and eventually getting it to open every time without nudging it with my shoulder.

Its still not perfect, its (And I've tried to think of another word to use) Stiff to open, but If I try any more adjustments it gets stuck shut.

So I'll leave it now, it opens first time, but needs a good pull (Not Tug. ;) )

Take the door card off and have a look at the lock connecting rods inside .. one of them (can't remember which) needs shortening so that the lock 'trips' more easily .. I think it's the one directly from the handle, quite long with an adjuster nut on it.

Mine, passenger door so lots of earache from Mrs D, used to take three or four tugs on the handle before the door opened, and felt just like the door didn't fit .. I'd adjusted the catch, the hinges, everything I could think of then happened to read something about a Ford with a similar problem, so played about and worked it out!

Have fun .. ;)

Cheers Paul.

I know about all the rods, I have adjusted a few before, namely the drivers side of my current one.

This was not the same, the rod was doing its job and no amount of adjustment would help.

As I say, its opening now without a shove but the door is getting stuck as it opens, so needs a good pull.

Well, its time to face the inevitable, I need a new turbo! took the pipework off and its got about 2mm of play, quite bad really. Surprisingly its not smoking as much as I would expect it to but neverless it needs to be done... oh well, least when I get it done I can crank the boost up knowing the turbos good :D

Ive a good turbo here from a 300tdi

Is yours a 300 0r 200 engine?

Mines a 200 im afraid, cheers for the offer though. Its only £350 for a recon unit so I think thats the way to go...

I think thats why mine went. The need for more power.:D

I like more power, with the new turbo I will prob go up to about 17PSi of boost and wind the fuel pump up a bit as well as thats barely turned up at the moment...

Have you replaced your Viscous fan Dan?

Neil (the painter up the unit) said he put some stuff in his Volvo, which had a cracked head/****ed gasket and its fixed it a treat. Cost him £27!
But nicks offered me his externally bare engine which i thought if i roped you and Mikey in would take us a day to swap ;)

His engine was an EDC model so would need to change all the fuel injection pumps and everything.

You could fit your engine in the garage, its just gathering dust.... ;)
