Ahh I'm actually afraid of buying anything off ebay unless I go and view it first.

And moneys not a major problem. I'd saved up about twice as much as I needed for the landy. So I'm looking at about £250 for the CB from 4x4cb.

And what hand winch would you reccomend? The cheapest I've found is this one...

Superwinch Parts, Electric Winches and Winch Bumpers, UK – Goodwinch.com Its rated for 2.5 tonne and is £179

"£250   for a cb". What for? you'll only ever use it when green laning and you'll never need to transmit more than a couple of miles with it. Lots of green laners manage with cheap PMR handsets.

Get a 2nd hand tirfor off ebay. Seriously I've bought almost all my landy stuff off ebay and never had a problem.

Have you done any green laning before, or been off-roading on Pay 'n Play sites/wherever? Have you done any off-road driving at all, or been laning/offroading as a passenger yet?

Laning as a passenger.

Depends what you class as off-road. But lots of farm work. Not quite the same I realise, but I'm used to soft ground, inclines and simple winch work.

No worries then. Just wondered if you fancied an hour or two around Maltby this weekend? Easy lanes, probably wouldn't get a Freelander stuck. I took a Disco and a Range Rover round them last but one weekend, both on road tyres and no-one got stuck .. few sideways moments, but no worries! Good intro to easy laning.

Meet at J1 M18 and heading towards Bawtry ... so not too far from Sheffield.

Unfortunately I'm going to be busy this weekend. I'm playing with the cadets. Since my accident got my kicked out of marines for the while, I've been helping out the local cadet unit. This weekend they're actually letting me play instead of just DSing on the side. I hope my hand and back and other crap hold up to it!

No worries .. the wifes just pointed out to me that I've been off work for a fortnight with a bust neck ... and not going to be back at work for another couple weeks so I ought to take it steadily ... ;)

Yeah. I got kicked out 4 months ago because I had a rock climbing accident. Broken metacarpals 2,3,4,5 in left hand. Had 2 replaced with metal and the other two plated. Broken L1-5 in my back. Fractured pelvis. 2 broken ribs. Tore a tendon from my bicep to my shoulder and now its caught in my shoulder and got itself tangled up in there. So every time I move my arm, it pulls on my shoulder!

I'll show you the scars if we ever get to go green laning together!

Sounds nasty I've done a fair bit of climbing lead HVS+ and seconded E2's

had a few falls but nothing too serious. Did damage my hip/back after a big fall off an overhang but nothing broken.

LOL, mine stems from when I worked down t'pit.

I was caught for a few hours under a rooffall, broke the top vertebra in my back and displaced three discs in my neck. Nowadays the discs pop out somewhat more easily than they should (I cricked my neck whilst asleep this time) and trap the nerves, making it somewhat painful ... travels down left side first, but at the moment is across my right shoulder bicep area and forearm with permanent pins and needles in my hand.

No worries it's getting better ... ;)

It was an E2 I fell off on. Manufacturers error in making. Never buy metolius ultralight curvenuts. Well, not the number 3 anyway.

DMM was what I used mainly, But only because my climbing partner also climbed with one of their directors and for a long time was sponsored by them.

is this LZ or rock climbers monthly???

anyhoo for my tuppence worth,

lifting strops or rated tree strops i have a 5 ton tree stop that i use all the time its a 5m one and a hefty rope that i am going to replace before i go out again, can you upload photos of your recovery points as i am not 100% convinced you have proper ones(just looking out for you as the last thing we want is a decapitation on a laning trip) as has been said get a good jack not a cheapy as you will pay in the long run! (broken limbs and damaged vehicle) also learn how to use it properly don't forget you are messing with gravity and a heavy vehicle one slip and your gonna end up in the ****.

keep an eye out for euro ropes on ebay they have some good bargains on recovery ropes.

As said, I don't have a camera, but as soon as I get one. Pics will be up!

They kind of look like U bended pieces of metal with a straight line at the open end.

Do they look like this, bolted through the chassis?

Jate ings

Not keen on those ones prefer these ones my self.

Proper forged Jaterings are way stronger than those fabricated one.

I agree .. I was on craddocks site though when I looked .. Just trying to clarify what he's got 'cos his answer could be Jate rings or lashing hooks ... ;)
