Hi

Looking to get some straps and shackles etc in the back of the truck ready for the off reading to begin. Just wondering if there is a guide/list of the essentials to have in there?

Also with regards to straps and d shackles what's the best length and tonnage to go for?

i have found in the past if you search 'lifting' strap or strops and shackles they are sometimes cheaper than 'off road' ;)

i 'borrowed' my new ones from work but i would say go at least 5 meter and the more tonnage the better. think of it this way the truck you will be pulling will be probably between 1500-2000kgs plus the extra of it being stuck. i think mine are 5000kg but they are mighty big (the main reason why i 'borrowed them ;)

I've found it best to have a long and short strap / rope too, start with your recovery points, are they strong enough? Decent shackles that have been tested is a must, I use a 8.5 ton working load if on its own, and a pair of 4 ton working load limit, if using a bridle attached to two recovery points on the front/rear, never had a problem and have been sunk in some quite deep mud before now.

Rope wise I've got a 8m kinetic (try to avoid using it but it has come in useful once as a last resort) I also have a 4.5m poly rope rated at I think (10ton breaking limit) and also have a 8m strap rated at 14ton (breaking limit)

Also a rolled up news paper to make it easier getting two joined ropes apart (I tend not to use a shackle to join ropes but loop them through each other)
