I have been given an EPB unit to play with removed I think from a D3. It's a heavy old lump, the garage had to cut the cables going to the brakes so the car could be moved.
If any of the parts are of interest happy to part with them for the cost of postage. The CPU board may or may not be OK, no means of testing it. The motor I can test if anyone wants it.
JLR were obviously not interested in weight saving, this lump is much heavier than a handbrake lever, not to mention the complication.

I have no idea why JLR moved to an electronic park brake. It seems utterly pointless.

EPBs are in the same category as DMFs, Tyre pressure sensors, Proximity brakes and Auto parallel parking systems. Not needed and a pain in the arse when they fail.

Love to see a car try to parallel park while doing 70 in the middle lane of the motorway

There is a way to release the hand brake that is stuck on and that is a release cable under a plastic cover in the center console and usually it because the handbrake shoes are worn or not adjusted properly

Had no effect on this one, needed bolt cutters on the cables.

The mech did know, the EPB unit was seized solid and yes it cost a fortune, could have bought a P38 for what it cost to fix:rolleyes:

Difference between a fitter and a mech? (I know I said mech in my post but its a name that doesn’t mean the same these days)
How quick would you have been to get the bolt cutters, if it were your car.

Time is money, nothing would free the thing.

So what’s actually seized then? Now you have got in amongst it

Around nearly £1k buys a lot of labour.

There is a ribbed brass tube and some other gubbins that pulls the cables driven by the motor, it was all solid.

So in your experience is that fixable?

Just asking as I may face that one day, on the 322

I have no idea really, all I have is the remains of the EPB and the story. However most things can be fixed if you have the knowledge and parts. Not something I will ever have to look at as I would never buy any vehicle with an EPB.
