Since this recent heatwave has started, I've noticed the increased whiff of EP90 from under my car. Once it cools down, it goes away!

Now, I love the delicate aroma of EP90 as much as the next person, but is this normal?

By the way, I wondered if one of my back axles was leaking so I took out the filler plug and the stuff started pouring out! I did it in the same place I filled it last year and as you shouldn't be able to overfill it I was wondering if the EP90 was expanding and coming out of a seal or breather somewhere?

Can't see any from the Tbox so I'm stumped!

Oil floats on water, if the level has risen and you have been wading then you may have water in there. That said if there is water in there it will turn the oil in to a emulsifeid goo

Yes, sorry, should have mentioned that I thought of that! The oil was nice and clean and I've since drained the both axles and refilled!

Personally i love the smell..

My yard use to reek of the stuff when i had several Old range rovers and old series landrovers ;)

It wouldn’t take much of a leak to create the smell of oil on a hot day.
It may be getting on to the brakes or possibly (as ours did) leaking from the differential nose bearing and being flung around by the prop shaft.

Are your axle breather holes clear, if blocked you will be getting a build up of pressure as the oil warms up.

short or long journeys, long journeys quite normal

Remember that the scent of EP90 is the mating call of the Land Rover fraternity.
If you sniff it anywhere, just ask if the wearer has a Series or a Fender, and you will probably find that they have!
