In a nutshell the keyfob works now and again but i don,t think the future is looking good, The only key i have fits the ignition but do not operate the doors, so i assume the barrels have been changed. Can i put new barrels in and just rely on the key to unlock door or is more involved with the central locking, which all works ok, it seems to be a key fob issue.
Opening and closing the door is proving tricky, ( had a advisory on mot ) the latch struggles to drop off the round pin on the door pillar, it all works if i thump the door panels, which is not ideal, does it need a new mechanism. or is it down to all those bars rods and levers that lurk behind the door panel!
Judging by other threads door lock seem to be a problem area. is there a no frills answer?

Would I be right in thinking your fob has a single button and that as you don't have a key for the drivers door?
If so, and if you wish to go the key locking route the just replace the drivers door lock barrel, but if you have a single button fof then just replace the fob as they are 'user' programable.

If you have a later twin button fob, you can get it repaired or replaced

Thanks for replying,
My key fob has two buttons, which i would get repaired if possible, but i do not want to rely solely on it, i would like to have a key to use as well. would it be possible to fit a new barrel and key?

Thats a shame, but yes you can fit a replacement barrel on the drivers door so you can lock... but, you still must unlock with the fob, otherwise the activation of the central locking will set off the alarm.
Locking with the key also isolates the interior movement detector that you have, that maybe or may not be an issue for you.

Thank you for the advice, having no moving detector would be great that means i can lock the vehicle without the dogs setting the damm thing off.

Thats the idea of it... and of course also if you have some "little helpers" waiting 4u :D
