Hi gang

hope everyone is keeping safe and well

always been curious , what would u consider to be the best engine that JLR had produced within the Range Rover , alas know there’s a cross over to the discovery as well

Was the jag 4.4 V8 a favourable one would u say plse ,, assume like everything it has its flaws, but always wondered what some of the weakness’s were throughout the range

don’t have a clue about many of them

thks again and as always very grateful

I am with @neilly but I am also biased

2011 with the 8 speed is lush:)

But........ I have a spot in my heart that says a good 4.6 with “top hats” comes a close second. That was some engineering that has kept the breed alive and has some very good tuning options.

Electrics seem to be the let down to be honest:(

many thks, heard that ref the 8 x speed, must admit have the 6x speed zf and that’s really nice

Are there any bad issues with The jag 4.4 petrol version that ur aware of plse

indeed ref electrics , can just be one bad connector that causes havoc to the canbus

I’m Doosle biased but believe the 4.4 jag is actually the bettererest engine.
That said MarJon’s ones not bad but weren’t put in by LR

I suppose it comes down to the old issue of which rendition for which?

To be honest No.
Although it does sound like a good engine overall, but I don’t know what box it was.

We finally went to the diesel for many reasons, where we are we don’t have the restrictions you guys are now facing.

The AJV8 for reliability stakes is easily the best engine of the bunch, it would run rings around any petrol V8 it also has the 6p26 box which is rather robust.
I have fettled and known people who have a twin scroll charger and NOS in their XJR's that push 700hp without issue..
The 4.2 S/C having forged internals helps, with VVT it also rev's to the moon..

The 4.4 TDV8 is the best of the V8 diesels avoid the 3.6 like it's a chick with herpes.

Gearboxes are good if maintained...

It is just the hulking leviathan that is sat around the engine that tends to fall apart ;)

The 4.4TDV8 with 8 speed box was not put in by LR?

Cheers

Many thks, so sounds like the 4,4 V8 jag petrol is a good lump to have

seen many of the petrol engines on LPG, does it cause a lot of issues or depends on the make of LPG system please , also seen ref these catch cans on petrols

watched a video the other day ref the 5 litre sc and the timing tensioner weakness

thks

If on LPG make sure you have a valve lube system in place akin to the flash lube system to prevent valve seat regression.

The 5l AJV8 does have a timing chain guide rail issue..

Limit yourself to the 4.4 and 4.2 if you want a petrol

4.4tdv8 if you want a diesel
