The 4.4 and 4.2 are good motors.

The 4.2 is supercharged and slightly thirstier and slightly more complex, I'd have it if i could stomach the Fuel bill ;)

The 4.4 is very spritely and simpler and the one i'd go for! ;)

The Lion TDv8 is ok.

But like the TDv6 it eats turbos and EGR's.
And recently among higher mileage examples Headgaskets and Various seals are showing signs of failure so beware.

The TDv8 will do 22-25mpg compared to the Petrol which will do 18-20 so IMHO it's not worth it..

Best stay with the Petrol!! ;)

Perfect , thks buddy

indeed sounds like the 4.4 is the one to go for , million dollar question LPG or not ??????

Know it makes it more complicated and of course if it’s been fitted correctly , along with ensuring it has the flashlube fitted

Think also it needs to be from 2007 so it’s paired with the ZF 6 x speed , same as what I’ve got in my D3 and must admit is the smoothest gearbox I’ve had

Thks again and great amount of info

The Jag Motor had the 6hp26 from 2006 ;)

With the mileage you do per year i'd be inclined to say no.

What is your average trip consist of in regards to miles?

Thks, mainly short trips , 10-15 miles , can also sit there for 2-3 weeks at a time

Defo petrol then! ;)

LPG has to "warm up" before it engages and with the mileage you do the LPG would kick in near the end of your journey making it useless ;) lol

Best stick to Pez ;)

Thks buddy , assume I could have lpg and switch it over if I go on a longer journey and petrol for the sort trips , est of both worlds then

Fitting a LPG system I assume isn’t a diy job

Oh yes LPG is switchable. ;) which is handy.

Switches can vary ;)

Top left corner of this pic is my switch ;)

LPG can be fitted at home so long as it complies with the LPG code of Practice, it has to be inspected after an installation ;)

@Saint.V8 has the code of practice on the Forum i believe.

Mr @gstuart are you running out of stuff to do that you are thinking of joining the RR club:)

Our TDV8 is the (Ford) with the 8speed box.
Engine is great and gearbox is “slick”:)
And it gets up and goes when needed.

Mpg ,only taken off screen not brim to brim so only a guide. Usually runs above 25, best was 32. So not bad and step up from the petrols we own. But I do understand the diesel issues possibly coming.

Found this. Might be of interest seems an honest report.
And a nice little video in the middle:)

Many thks , considering it for next year to step over to a FFRR , but will see, lol

Enjoying the D3 so much I’m thinking in the back of my mind do I want to start again on another vehicle just yet

Always nice to be able to find out all the ins and out first which indeed takes time

Thks so much for the link, will have a read of that later

As always very grateful

Remember the Jag engine needs Flashlube or similar on LPG. Even buying the parts yourself you're looking at at least a grand to convert to LPG. Unless high miles or keeping a long while it just isn't worth it.

Thks, indeed remembered u saying about the flashlube , so in reality if it’s hasn't already got the LPG system fitted it’s not worth it due to cost and return

As always most appreciated , thank u

You can pick up second hand lpg kits for around 200 quid but you would probably spend at least the same again on bits to get it up to scratch.
My jury is out on flashlube, mine has done many miles on lpg by the looks of it (15k in my ownership already!)
My view on this one is it owes me nothing now so I'll run it until it shows signs of problems then decide whether to get a newer one or refurb the heads with hardened seats.
