My 4.0 Range Rover was running fine, one morning it would not turn over, plenty of power in the battery, recylced the central locking in case the inhibitor had kicked in, nothing, disconected and re-connected the battery, still nothing, on a remote power supply to the starter the engine turns but will not start, so it seems the engine is imobalized, but this is not showing on the dash display, checked all fuses and relays which are fine....any ideas?

Sounds like it has lost its security link between the BECM and the engine ECU,if the check engine lamp does not come on in key position 2 that proves it.

Thanks for that info, seems like you have hit the nail on the head! no check engine lamp, so wher do I go from here?...is it a reset job or a wiring / hardware issue

its that simple but you need to get it to testbook (usually a recover to dealer - AA, RAC and Independent guys working for Direct Line are used to this) and then the £100 for the textbook!

I've been there twice in a year - and my BeCM gets replaced tomorrow.

Welcome to the wacky world of P38 ownership!
