Could really use some advice and guidance if possible. My Td5 recently had issues with the turbo (worn end float) and exhaust outlet manifold (warped). I replaced both, using a reconditioned Garrett Turbo from a well know remanufacturer. The turbo sounds loud when I drive, whistling / whining but the car runs and drives ok. I recently towed a caravan down to Dorset for the weekend and had quite a few problems. The engine has a viscous fan but I kept hearing what sounded like the fan kicking in and running for a few minutes before shutting off. This kept repeating every ten minutes whilst on the motorway and the turbo sounded like it was struggling. I was doing approximately 60mph steady. Off the motorway the fan never kicked in. I have towed with this vehicle for a number of years and never had an issue until now. I don’t have air con so it’s not the pump. Also I replaced the auxiliary drive belt and two pulleys a couple of months ago. I am being advised that the belt looks worn and cracked already. Would greatly appreciate any inspiration here as I am due to go up to the Lakes soon with said caravan. The vehicle has done 130k. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like an air leak in the intake system, had similar when my airbox lid wasn’t on correctly. Check pipe work, clips and intercooler

Many thanks. I will check all the hoses and clips. Fingers crossed it’s that easy to fix. Cheers.

Get some one to stick their hand over the tailpipe (when it's not too hot), for a couple of seconds while you check the exhaust for leaks. They'll be easier to hear/spot with the blowback caused. Start up at the exhaust manifold and work back to flexi and so on.
I had an electrical module that kept kicking in and sounded like an electric fan from inside the cab.
