Are you stationary or moving when it does this

You can just here it when stationary, but loud when moving, (revs at round 1200iah) mate of mine took it out and he said it whines more when you turn the wheel - we where at the time in tesco car park so going below 30mph - which is when I thought that the ACE kicked in??

Have you checked all belts are tight if it alters when you turn wheel could be pas belt slipping slightly.

Remove the belt and run it. Alternator light will come on, you will have no power steering and no coolant, so don't run it for long BUT it will identify whether it is the engine (bad) or an ancillary (good)

Cheers
