I have engine vibration in my freelander L-series 2L diesel when under 2000 RPM this only started 2 weeks ago what might be the problem I have checked all UJs and shafts.

Vibration sound and feel when under 2000 Rpm no loss of power, Engine mounts are good drivee shafts are good when I go over 2000 Rpm its fine.

Serpentine belt off next then and check all the pulleys for sideways movement of rough running by hand.

What about when in neutral and stationary? Does it vibrate at 2000 rpm then?

No vibration when stationary only when driveing Its fine at 2000 Rpm but under 2000 it kinda shudders I had it at my local garage up on a lift for to check everything belts mountings shafts wheels air flter the land rover garage said it might be a fuel problem it drives perfect and lots of power other then that vibration.

I would suspect a 'fuel problem' to cause an 'vibration' at higher revs as the demand for fuel is greater. Altho' there is no harm in changing the fuel filter.

As it only occuers while moving and I assume in all gears, plus the inspection the garage has given it, then I am thinking that it may well be clutch or gearbox related; but can't really think of what.

I have to say if a garage couldn't find it on a lift then I suspect that it will prove near impossible over the internet :D

If there is no vibration whilst stationery its not the engine. I had/still have this problem on mine, get an horrendous vibration mainly in 4th/5th gear between 1500-2000rpm (not sure if yours is gear related), after 2000rpm nothing its gone. Never lacks power, doesnt smoke. Had driveshafts, ird, prop removed, drop links, lower arms, clutch, flywheel, all the mounts and its still there so good luck and if you find out what it is please let me know :) The only way I got rid of the vibration was to remove the intercooler pipe to the manifold so in effect it was running as a natural aspirated, this cured it but was slow as fcuk to drive!!!!

I also still got the same problem.... wonder what would happen if a new intercooler pipe was fitted.... maybe pipe is acting up somehow?

Forgot to say I changed both the intercooler pipes, no different, then I joined both the pipes for a test just to rule out the intercooler and it was still the same, oh well gave up with it months ago now :)

Hi I have this curious engine vibration between 1500 and 1800rpm.......
could this be the beginnings of MAF sensor decline............

I also have this issue, exactly as described . Replaced fuel, air and oil filter also tyres, VCU etc etc..

I am now thinking it's an injector issue, first step for me is forte diesel treatment and then maybe refurbed injectors????

Hi I have checked on BMW sites for M47 issues they have them too......some have found injectors to cure it. What about rubber mounted pulley could this be comming appart....this is a vibration damper......there are reports of them separating............
let me know how you get on....still wondering about MAF have a look at
75ZT HOME there is a good fault finding section....
somthing mentioned about MAF sensors causing judders under 1800rpm.

Well I would be good to get this sorted, glad im not the only one!

Dont think its MAF related on mine as unplugging it does nothing.

Unplugging it should do something, you may have inadvertantly found your problem;)

You are correct! pardon my bad wording. I mean to say it does nothing for the problem but does cause a lack of top end power.

If only it was something like that I would be so happy!

Cheers

Hi - has anybody come to a conclusion on this one.......checking one threat there is apparantly an issue with the fuel pressure sensor wiring harness.....and a tech bullitin issued by LR.....apparantly harness connections go faulty causing ECU to cycle fuel delivery as it cannot estabish precise pressure.............I will be looking into this after
cleaning my MAF curiously my vibs became far far worse when I changed a really grubby air filter for a nice new one............

Just spent the afternoon under my 04 td4 because I have had a vibration at 1600 ish revs for 5 months. Jammed the throttle at the required revs with td4 on ramps and crawled underneath to have a look.

Found I had a badly fitted engine tray which made a rattle in sympathy with the vibration but is not the cause. Exhaust vibrates in center box which makes a noise but is not the cause. The miles of gear linkage rattle but is not the cause all this makes the vibration noticeable so I have rectified these so passengers are not aware of it but I can still feel it whitest driving.

What I think it maybe is the vibration deadening bottom linkage, I can rock the engine on this mounting by hand but don't know if its meant to be that "soft" Will cost £50 to change it and find out, rather spend that money on an egr paypass but this vibration doing me head in.

Can anyone else rock this mounting by hand??

Cheers

Hi guys

you guys are talking about the TD4 which is a BMW engine. this is mainly the rover diesel.

as for the BMW unit you need to check the engine loom and all the classics such as pcv and pressure sender in plastic filter housing.

loads of info on the rover 75 site.
The bmw unit has one advantage its got loads of sensors that testbook can check.
good luck guys

I will be replacing my egr valve soon ...... at the same time I will attempt a claen of the MAF .......... I will report back. I am convinced mine is maf related as things felt allot worse when I replaced the original minging air filter...........(no pun intended to the honourable ming present on this site!)

Can anyone else rock this mounting by hand??

the lower tie bar type mount on the drivers side? Yep I put on a new one it's the same. I was able to remove the bush from the metal part with my thumb and an easy push - this was the new LR part!
