if it was structual ,i would be very concerned relying on such a flimsy structure ,
at least the rest of the freelander appears to be of superior construction
Yes you are totally correct, I just didnt mention all the other attachments to the subframe and front plastic valance as they are 'lightweight'. Some of which use a rivet to mount the bracket to the firbreglass part.
One of my brackets snapped in two, simply fabricated one out of aluminium.
I have seen in other cars (MG), the most flimsy strap of metal welded to the bulkhead and floor region, You can bend the strap by hand,
It is there to strengthen the torsional twisting of the car body.
Regarding the undertray, it has no permanent fixings and can be ruled out as some sort of torsional stiffener.
It simply stops a lot of crud from going into the engine bay and only offers minimal protection from stones and tree stumps.
