Hi Men
Is there fitted as standard any engine protection under neath the engine bay. i.e: skid pan.
99 Td5 Lwb.
 
I take it your talking a disco here!! The only protection under mine is a plastic shield which is between engine and axle/steering bars. All you can really get at is the sump drain plug. Don't know if this helps you???

Yes disco 2, had a clutch change last week all week and there are a few issues i want to take back to them, being a disco owner for 4 months I could'nt remember the underside shielding, mine has now got none at all, plus new clutch slips in low drive and the oil sensor wire is missing, thats as far as I can see. Not bad for £700.

But how can you be sure you had the plastic shield before taking it to the shop if you can't remember? Maybe you dind't have one in the first place, you lost it in mud, it was stolen. Of course you can bluff and tell them that you did have one, but don't insist on that, you can get it very cheap from salvage yards.
Try to insist on the clutch and other bits gone wrong or missing, leave the shield as a last cracking strike.
 
I'm so p#><$d off I normaly get things done on the cheep, this time I went to legit garage, they had to cut out some cross bar then re-weld it back cos they could'nt undo the bolts, what else!

What:eek:?! What exactly did they cut? I sincerely hope it wasn't the crossmember under the gearbox! Can you post pictures of what was cut/welded?

Yes thats what they said, the bolts holding it in place were rusted so they could'nt remove them so they cut it out and re-welded it back, to enable them to drop the gearbox!

If this is real and depending a bit on were it was cut/welded I think you can get all you money back if that's an authorized LR dealer/shop.
Some pictures will help you in making your complaints, so if you get to shoot some, post them here. Maybe it's a misunderstanding. I still can't believe this. There are dozens of ways to remove a rusted bolt/nut.
 
They are also an MOT testing station? I think it was cut either end I will rig up some lighting and take some photo's give me half hour or so.
This slipping clutch cost &#163;698. Dual mass fw, clutch, master & slave cylinders. Normal drive seems OK, low drive slips on acceleration

That is horrendous ! I can feel a full letter of complaint with photos comming up.
I would not expect any vehicle taken to a main dealership to come back worse than it went in!

The motor industry is just about (like when?) to tighten up on training, as I've been looking into it recently myself.

Considering that having a grade 3 CSE pass in two sciences and a language qualifies you as eligable to become workshop manager, and that the basic grades are taught in school, I think it's about time !

I'm sorry to hear of your butchery, but to make you feel better, a small story from my dad.-
His work colleague took his series 3 BMW in to the main dealership for it's first (running in) service. All very nice, and thought he'd done the best for his beloved motor.
He got most of the way home before his engine siezed. The sump plug was still at the garage, and they'd forgotton to do that bit!
Needless to say, he got a new engine (paid for half by BMW and half by the garage in punishment), and compensation for inconvenience.
I think you have a right for compensation for depreciation in value this job has caused at the least.
Just a thought; AA do an independent inspection service - may be worth getting a "professional" opinion for your case.

Also, Why the replacement of clutch system entire? are they taking the P!ss? - ask to see the clutch flywheel they took out. I doubt it would be excessively worn unless you've had a new clutch before. Sounds to me like they did everything they could possibly charge for relating to a clutch replacement. New Clutch &#163;90 top trade price, plus 4 hours max labour doesn't sound so lucrative does it?

Sorry mate but those photo's look like something out of "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind"

Personaly can't comment on the work done having not seen it but having just done the job myself on a 300dti the price might be a little over the top but not a **** take,that is if they have changed all the bit's they say and it was'nt slipping.Are you sure it's slipping?It's in the high gears you are going to notice it more! Like go from 2nd to 4th and floor it!

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding It wasn't a main stealership but a reputable garage & MOT testing station, but non the less, I spoke to them yesterday about difficulty engaging low drive in general transfer box very stiff and in low drive on the flat & level road lifting the clutch the vehicle moves away normally, introducing power in low their is a definite increase in rev's with little acceleration definite slipping. In high range under all heavy load conditions seems fine.
Their reply "that's normal it has to slip in low range with no excess load due to the high torque of the engine??
Help!!!

Gasanova I think that you need to chill out on this one before you make your self ill:eek:

LOW box is so LOW especialy first, that as soon as you touch the throttle the needle shoots off into the revs and might give the impression that it's slipping but it is'nt!! Low to high box is always stiff depending on use and if you read your owners manuel it will say "if it wont go into low or high box lift clutch and try again" this is cos your gears are not in line ans is normal:) A lot of people prefer changing on the move but not over 5mph.
It is quite common to have to whip the bolts off with an angle grinder that hold the cross member on.

thats a weight off, only had this my first disco 4 months.
