No. What bits have you changed?

I've not changed anything brought it at a garage sale old boy been into series 1 2 3 and classic rr and p38s shed load of stuff in all states .the engine has new chains new sprocket head looks new or good rebuild pump does not look very old but can't find one dot or 6 or O to set it up by and I don't want to pull it all apart because can see all seals and gaskets are new so just hoping for maybe someone has come across this before and worked out away of doing this

As far s I'm aware, you cannot time the FIP without the tools for the job.

if you have the front cover off then there should be 2 bright links on the chain and a dot on the FIP sprocket and one on the crank sprocket that should line up when the engine is at TDC and the camshaft locked with the special tool.that will time the fip to begin with then u have to use a dial gauge to time it perfect.

If it’s all new, there are no marks and the engine has been sold cheap, my guess is something was wrong :(
Do your chains have marks/coloured links?

Static timing would need dti gauge and flywheel pin. Chains is bit more involved

Any pics of it? :)
