Hi Guys.
Just bought a used 2014 Range Rover Sport and engine switched off while I was driving at about 70mph. I managed to stop the vehicle and parked. However engine won’t crank or start and I am getting a Red Triangle warning sign and an amber engine sign on the dash plus a green A with an arrow that says Engine Shutdown. No prior warning signs noticed before the incident. The Technician who attended the breakdown says engine is not turning and suspects a seizure. Any similar experiences or advise? How can this happen without any prior warning of low engine oil or low water pressure in the engine?

I hope you still have a warranty on it, I suspect it’s the td6 , first place to look is the oil filter for signs of metal fragments

Don't give up hope find a way to turn engine manually . see if it seized 70 mph I'd idling for an engine that size . unless of course you have or previous owner has thrashed it to death . check oil to at least see if it has any . if it turns manually is under bonnet by means of a spanner placed on alternator or bottom pulley then at least you know its not seized .
That fact you managed to roll to a stand still suggest it not seized even an automatic with seized engine will come to some sort of grinding stop .

Thank you. Will try that.

A new engine from Landrover and fitted by LR dealer will probably cost more than your car is worth. Pray that yours isn't seized. I would have thought if it had seized at 70mph there would have been a noticeable and unpleasant noise at the same time.

Seems to be many cases of cranks snapping on these engines. I think LR supply replacement / exchange at approx £4.5k + fitting (C£2K at good indy), at least they do for the 2.7TDV6. Not an easy job on these as ideally body has to come off. Depending on service history you may have a case with LR to contribute as it's only a year out of manufacturers warranty & a very well known failure.

Thanks Martyn,
I will pursue this option as soon as the dealer completes the diagnosis. Hoping for the best.

hi , sorry to hear this, i assume as you’ve just bought this u can throw the car back at them

certainly not a good start and indeed as others have said it’s a min of 5k for a recon engine plus fitting , indeed easier to take the body off

plse let us know how u get on

PS, did u happen to pay by credit /debit card plse

heard quite a few D4 snapping there crankshafts , suppose to be the crank shells move and block off the oil ways

Hi
Paid by Debit Card. Will certainly pick up the issue with the Seller who is a Landrover Dealer as soon as I know the actual problem.
