Hey All,

I am about to embark on a service / timing belt change for my 300tdi discovery.

So far I have these on the shopping list:

Oil, Fuel and Air Filter

Timing Belt Kit (Inc Tensioner / Gasket)

Serpentine Belt

Water Pump

Also plan to replace the glowplugs - is there anything else? gaskets, bearings - I'll also be doing oil changes on the diffs and gearbox - anything else I should be doing at the same time.

This is the first real dabble I've had other than the odd oil change on the other half's pug.

Other than that, are there any special tools required other than the fan spanner?

You might want some timing pins to hold the injector pump/flywheel
ENGINE LOCKING PINS for TIMING BELT LAND ROVER 200/300 Tdi | eBay

A breaker bar /27 mm socket to loosen the crank pulley bolt , in my case i wedged the bar under the chassis and turned over the engine on the starter to loosen it . (remove wire from stop solonoid first !)

I had to make a puller to remove the pulley as well , piece of thick flat bar with 2 holes drilled in it ..

cheers Mike

Have you gota good reason to replace the glow-plugs? Seems like a waste of money to me! They aren't a general service item are they?

Replace the P gasket.
May be worth doing the stat as well.
Check the hoses and the RAD.
New bleed valves for the rad and stat housing. Use household radiator bungs with built in valves.
