my freelander 1999 2.0di is running rough it starts and idles ok for a while then it revvs up on its own then tries to cut out then settles and idles fine again for a few minutes then the process starts again could this be an injector fault or a injection pump fault

The DI is a reliable old lump. Not normally suffering fueling problems. MAP sensors fail as to MAF sensors. I'd look there first.

Here here I'm thinking on the same lines as Nodge68 on this one also I think the sensor at the pump end is electronic try some electric contact cleaner. what ever the problem and solution eventually is don't forget to post it back here it may help others

cheers

Does your engine have an Idle Air Control Valve? If so id look there at giving it a clean and seeing if there's any improvement
If it doesn't...... I'm outta here:eek:

Just an idea, heard a lot about the wire to injector 1 chaffing. Don't know what exact symptoms would be but might be worth checking?

It sounds like its drawing in a bit of air to me, check your pipes and make sure they are not hard or cracked, make sure the connections are all nice and tight and that all the copper washers on the fuel pump fittings are ok
