Can someone please tell me the easiest way to remove the engine, gearbox and transferbox on a series 1 Freelander?

All out the bottom I guess but do I need to remove the subframe?

Thanks in advance

Nick

If it is a TD4 engine, then dropping it out of the bottom is the easiest, if it is a petrol engine or L series diesel, then you would be better of using a large amount of RDX

Thanks Mike.

He asked if your dropping a diesel engine or a petrol engine .

Which engine do you have ?

Mines an Lseries/xedi .
I dropped the engine out twice ,a few years ago .
Iirc, disconnect the battery and all pipes, hoses and the wiring loom .
I whipped off the wheels, then the hubs and tied them up to the suspension springs . Remove the drive shafts carefully .Then whip off the subframe .Drop the vehicle as low as it will go onto a dolly or blocks of wood . Open the engine mounts .Then lift the body slowly and evenly, watching for any missed connections . 2 jacks are handy and have plenty of blocks of wood or concrete blocks and wood . Keep building the blocks under the chassis . Lift till the bumper will clear the engine and slide it out .

Theres plenty of other things to do .Like disconnect the prop shaft and gear linkage and tie them up . You might also want to disconnect and drop the IRD and gearbox before dropping the engine .

I also might have forgotten exactly how to do it .
