I'm trying to take out my 300 tdi engine and I'm having dramas with it. I have Un bolted everything that I need to, but the bolts on the engine/flywheel housing are rounding off so I can't separate the engine. Was thinking of taking off the front axle and dropping the engine and gearbox whole.

Any ideas??

to do it that way you have to take off loads from the engine to gain clearance between the chassis - manifold with turbo / engine mounts complete / alternatorand it will still be very tight on the injection pump. But if bolts are rounding then it looks like you have no alternative.

Never done it on a Disco but if the bolts are rounded they'll need replacement, obviously. So, can you get in there with a Dremel and cut them off? Once the tension is off the bolt, removal should be easier, plus you'll have a half inch or so of thread to grip onto or make into a square with a grinder (to use a spanner on etc).

That's one hell of a lump to pull out if you cannot undo the fastenings, you might manage it if you remove the front slam panel

get yerself some rounded nut removers.;)
Got meself a set of snap-on ones the other week on special of course:cool: unbeleavable good removed some security bolts from a disco 4 commercial also got some sockets off of MAC they will undo a nut/bolt thats almost completly round :D

Are you using single or double hex sockets?

You got he same ones I have then. Did you get both snap-on sets or just the one? They work on round bolts too. (allen key bolts, locking wheel nuts etc etc). I've had mine for about 4 or 5 years and although they aren't the most expensive tools I have I class them as some of the most valuable due to the amount of labour they've saved me.

Both, I used single then it started rounding off then used double.

What are these rounded off nut removers? Is it the same as a nut spliter?
