Hi
Just bought a D2 auto and looking at re-mapping the engine to give it a bit more performance. Plenty of firms out there offering this service but always prefer a recommendation. I’m in Kent near Tunbridge Wells so the more local the better but happy to travel to the right place.

Hi, I had mine done by Alive tuning last year at the Billing LR show(29/30th of June), only a stage one re- map but it makes a big difference to the driveability & can thoroughly recommend them (Empire Tuning were also there). You can travel to their workshops but not exactly sure where they're based. If yours, like mine' is an EU2 engine they need to change the 'chip' in the ECU as the originals aren't flashable (afterwards they are), if it's EU3 then the existing chip is rewritable as far as I understand it. Could be worth 'nipping' over to the introduce yourself section on here.

Thanks Andy
Alive tuning was who I was looking at and they have a dealer at UK Defenders who are close by so I may ask them and see what they can do.
I will go to the introduce yourself section as well.. cheers

Hi, before the remap you should make sure that the engine is running perfect from all points of view, e.g good consumption, good injector balance, no smoke on acceleration, smooth idle, good cooling, unrestricted exhaust, etc... If it's powerless for some reason just simply remapping it would not fix it, on the contrary

BTW is it Eu2 or Eu3? EGR bypassed?

Thanks.. how do I know if it’s Eu2 or 3 and if the EGR has been bypassed?

Not waning to psis on your fire, but my first hand experience with engine tunres/remappers incl ones mentioned in this thread all lead to engine problems down the line.
Iirc the LR 4 speed auto cannot handle much more power than std state of tune, a well respected norhtern tuner told me many years ago that a tuned edc 300tdi can and will break the auto box, so just imagine what the td5 can do to it?

Every LR Ihave owned I have modded/tuned, only latest one is totally std, that has had zero issues in 10 years, and that car is a d3!

Where I now work most of the vehicles that have/had been chipped have had serious engine issues, two major blow ups, these are not cars/vans but 16 litre trucks, the standard tune ones have had no such issues.
After some after treatment isseus that had no fault codes, I had to ring said tuner for him to tell me his software constantly deleted any fault codes to stop the mil lamp appearing, so every time I plugged it in it had no stored codes.

What year is your D2 ? If it's pre-facelift with a 10P engine then it's probably a EU2 if it's a facelift model with a 15 or 16P engine then it's more than likely EU3.
The EGR is what is circled in the pic. people either replace that part with a 'blank' item or put a blanking plate in the pipe from the exhaust manifold to the EGR if you search on here EGR blank of delete you'll find earlier posts about it or Google D2 TD5 EGR blanking/deleting. If it hasn't been done bare in mind it is an MOT failure if you're thinking of doing it so read as much as you can & don't throw any bits away as you might just need them!
