Do not undo the large nut in the
Centre of the FIP pulley.
Crank and camshaft pullies- cam one will wiggle off and you can use two levers opposite each other to help. The crank one can be a little more difficult but once it's moved a bit it gets easier.
There is provision for a pulley iirc on the crank one but I've never needed one.

Im assuming you need to undo the big nut on the cam shaft one?
 
Forgot about the central bolt out when taking the rocker shaft out so the whole slacken evenly thing went out the window. That’ll teach me to think I can do everything from memory.

Changes of having bent the rocker shaft? Best way to check? Keen to avoid any additional costs.
 
So how the devil do you attach an engine stand to the back of this. Flywheel housing removed.

300 camshaft is held in with a plate over the end of it. How's the 200 kept in place?

I’ve taken the head off before. It’s 5 bolts along it’s length. I forgot about the middle one and just worried I may have bent the rocker shaft as there’s upward force from the valves that are open

If you are that worried you could always remove all the gubbins from the shaft and roll the shaft on a flat surface to satisfy your mind.

Ahh, my mistake. Thought you were talking camshaft :rolleyes: My post was late and so drink must have been involved! :oops:
 
Progress... couldn’t be bothered with the engine stand. Just as easy to strip on a platform.

What are people’s thoughts on cleaning parts in the dishwasher? I’m lazy and it would just be for the alloy bit. Timing cover etc... wouldn’t want to damage them but surely can’t be too treacherous... unless my better half finds out.

i wouldnt dare in ours but thats whats used at engine rebuilders big hot washers
 
Progress... couldn’t be bothered with the engine stand. Just as easy to strip on a platform. View attachment 164503
I've never used an engine stand either cos I haven't got one but if I did have one I would use it.
The engine is unstable once you need it upright and it's a pita to keep heaving it one way then the other to attach parts.
If you've got one use it for the build up.
If you haven't, get some thick cardboard to stand it on and some plastic sheet to protect against dirt when you aren't working on it.
You'll need some blocks of hardwood to wedge the crank so you can tighten stuff up like the flywheel.
 
I do have one but was a bit dubious the small bolts that go into the back would hold it.

Thin block of hardwood or something non metallic really ,slid down between a crank web and the inside of the block.
 
Will the stand accept M10 studding?, You need the clutch, flywheel, conversion housing off before you mount it imho.

Yeh it will I more worried that the bolt holes would strip with the weight. Obviously thats how its done but you know when something makes you feel uneasy
