Hi,

I had to change the oil cooler pipe on my v8 4.0 2002 from the front cover to the oil cooler. In the process of disconnecting from the oil cooler it stripped the aluminium thread on the cooler, which I now have learned is pretty normal.

I ordered a new cooler (ESR 3204) suitable for all v8 4.0 models which arrived but it is much deeper than the one I have in place - 7.5mm v 2.9ish mm. Attached are a couple of pics showing the difference.

I think the new one might just fit into the space available and wondered if anyone knows if the size has been changed at some point perhaps to give greater cooling and this is the correct part? It just seems strange the same part number can have different dimensions.

I can find a few of the 2.9mm ones internationally but not so far as I can see in the uk.

Any advice or knowledge greatly appreciated!

Non OE parts can be different to the originals and often need to fashioned in some way. Always worth checking the part number actually stamped on the cooler itself to be sure they sent you the correct one.
