HI MATES, this morning after a quick drive to the town and back, i heard a weird tick..tick..sound from the engine(just after i cut it out)...so i open the hood and check whats causing the ticking....

It was obvious enough the ticking was coming from the engine head(top cover)...is this normal mates..??..and soon after i realise there was some oil surrounding the engine oil cap(pictures) and also at the edges of the head cover...and after opening the cap..there was white smoke....some sort of steam perhaps because of the heat of the engine(just cut off rite)....

Before this incident, ive just top up engine oil early this morning abt 1 and half liter because the dipstick showed low mark. No wonder its low.....

So have any of u mates experienced this kind of incident??..what could be causing this oil coming up from the cap..??..any info and insight much appreciated..thanks...

Firstly, are you sure that the oil is escaping from the cap/filler rather than from a bad rocker cover gasket?

Run the engine, put your palm tight over oil filler hole....is there a lot of pressure pushing against your hand that releases as you lift it off?

If there is,you most likely have crank case compression, normally caused by gases escaping around the piston rings.

You could try using one of the oil additives like "stop smoke" or the like, advertised for older engines. This MIGHT cause gummed up rings to return to duty,if you are lucky.

If you have been running low oil in a hot climate you would be well advised to put a flushing agent in the oil,run the engine up and then change the oil and filter.

Are you making your oil changes more frequent to cope with the climate ?

thanks shocker...ive tested the filler and yes there was a LOTSSS of pressure pushing against my palm..a lots pressure pushing out together with white smoke...

yes i am, in fact there is another leaking through the bell housing(wading hole).."suspect rear crank seal leaking"....like 150 -200ml in couple of days..so u can say im changing the oil veryyy frequently...according to local mechanic its a huge job to change the seal inside the rear crank and nobody here got landy tools..the only landy certified garage is 800miles north...so im holding my horse just around here and hoping to make the trip up north soon...if thats possible in her condition like this......

It sounds to me like you have a blown head gasket - if I'm right long-distance travel is not reccomended.

before you get to involved in fings check your injector pump if its nackered it cause oil to rise is there any signs of diesel in the oil ??

oh man...ive just changed the head gasket on the 14th Sept...just a month and 2 weeks ago??....how could have this happen..??

That's a lot of oil, are you sure you haven't over filled it?

I have found that a good oil flush with a mix of 50/50 new oil/derv and left on tickover for 20 to 30 min's helps to unstick gummed rings. Have you done a compression test?

thanks hifly...i will have a go with that idea...well i have not done that test because around this land simply theres no facilty to do that kind of test..mmm...but i hope the oil flush will really works and solve the problem...

hi mates...i need your honest opinion on this matter..is changing the piston rings of all the piston can solve this oil, smoke and pressure problem..???..

hi, it might not be your piston rings, you say you changed your head gasket recently, it could be you need you cyl head skimmed. one reason for the oil in the sump pressurizing could be the compression gases finding their way down one of the oil ways in the block, thus pumping the oil from the sump in to the combuston chambers the engine will then use the sump oil as fuel, the engine will then rev it self up untill the sump oil is all gone this happens even if you switch the engine off, the only way to stop it running away. is to put it in gear and try and stall the engine. cheers elt.

thanks elt..so meaning, to solve this problem i got to skim the cylinder heads rite?

hi, i had the same problem, and in my case i had to have the head skimmed, cheers elt.
