Hi recently had a discovery td300 engine fitted in my defender and didn't note the new engine no now only no I can find is HRC2553/B which I've now been told is probably a casting no can somebody tell me where I should be looking please

On the engine

Try looking for flats elsewhere on the block with a number stamped on them. The engine may have been reconditioned, and restamped by the reconditioner. Degreaser, and a lighted mirror on an extendable stick, can be helpful.

If there isn't a number anywhere, it may have been ground off, not sure what to suggest in that case.

Can you post a pic of the number that you originally found, so that we can eliminate it from the enquiry?

Having said that, it doesn't sound like any Landrover engine number I have seen.
It's on the drivers side low down hrc2553/B can't really get at it to take picture

No can't see anything

Find the number it will be there but not always visible at first.
Ask the garage to write you a letter that they fitted engine xxxx into car with xxxx registration and then send this to DVLA. For a number change. Do check the chassis number too and make sure it matches.
DVLA actually don’t care about export when you send the slip off the V5C (or even online now maybe?)
It’s the new country of registration that might care when your numbers don’t match, or are not there then you could face a lot of problems.
