HI All
got myself a 1988 90 a few months ago that has had loads of work and mods done on it, not much left thats original apart from the chassis and bulk head, I was told when i bought it that the engine and gearbox was out of a disco and it looks like a 200tdi but now I need to order some parts (clutch kit as nasty screeching noise, goes when i dip clutch) think its the thrust bearing; BUT engine no starts 12L xxxxxA, phoned local LR dealers and they said that there is no such number starting in 12L but thats whats stamped on block, anybody outthere know
:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

12L is a discovery version of a 200Tdi.
11L is a defender version of a 200Tdi.

As far as i know the difference in the 2 engines is the turbo is up high on a defender and low down on a discovery, and something to do with the front timing cover and water pump cause there is less room under a defenders bonnet.

If you have said you have a defender with a engine starting with 12L that’s why they probably cant find it. ive found main dealers for any car manufacturer pretty useless when it comes to identifying stuff.

not sure on the rules for linking to websites is but you can find the disco engine number on the rimmerbros website.
