Just filling out my V5c just now to change the 90 into my name....

see the engine numbers on it and its wrong now.....obviously im sending it away today to get updated - which will be a world of hurt as well but see what they say......

how ever tomorrow i have MOT - will they care that the engine number doesnt match ? the chassis number is right though.

I don't even have an engine number on my v5, never been an issue at mot time

My rebuild went from 2.5 petrol to 300tdi, to change the V5 I needed a letter from a garage confirming the engine number, cc, fuel type before the DVLA would change it.....

As paulnb says get a note from your garage,I did not and my V5 disappeared into the system for months and it took many calls/letters to get it back.

Ok ill hold off on the sending the v5 till after i speak to the garage tomorrow.

im a fairly new face to them having not long moved into the area.

fingers crossed he understands my situation- hes an oldschool mech so fingers crossed- if not ill speak with my old local.

im still nervous about the mot - no idea why as its in better nick than nearly all the landies i see on the road.

doesnt have them ****y lucas lights that fail at the drop of a hat

and importantly .... doesnt mark its territory ....

but still nervous....

While you are at the garage tomorrow getting your MOT, have them verify the engine number and put it on headed paper. I just had to do this for mine. Guy I bought it from had the engine swapped in 2009 and never bothered to update the V5C. It's passed every MOT since 2009 without issue, but I still wanted to have the V5C reflect the correct engine number. A quick search on the DVLA website will tell you that the only way to do it for an engine that was swapped before you purchsed the vehicle is to have a garage put on headed paper the correct engine number.

The comments you've had on here are accurate. No one will bother to look at it. The garage I went to said that he had never done this before because no one bothers to update their V5C for their engine number and most don't even list it.

After reading many negative posts over the years about the dvla, when I changed the engine in my old series 2, I made a point of not telling them, insurance know and thats good enough in my book.

if the engine number wasnt specifically listed i wouldnt have bothered .

i had no intention of telling them(DVLA) i changed one 2.5 turbo diesel engine for another 2.5 turbo diesel engine. Was enough fun explaining to the insurance that i changed it in my driveway

I was worried about sending mine off but I changed engine number at the same time as changing my afresh and no questions asked.

I think the less dealings you have with the dvla the better. If you do t need to speak to them don't. I have no intention of sending my v5 off with an engine number to be put on it....
