What oil did you put in? If its a banging noise rather than a tapping noise, it could be injectors starting to go.
am sure it was semi synthetic could of been fully synthetic tho. hmm it dont sound like the injectors but the freelander is on 105000 miles now so could be needing reconed now

Sounds like a diesel to me mate,
close the bonnet and drive it..

If it was a 730 BMW diesel then yes its a bit noisy..

But mate its a Freelander, with plastic wings, your going to hear
it when you lift the bonnet, and stand listening for noise..

I have heard much worse and not many quieter than the second vid..
Please just drive it...

These are noise problems..

guess your right mate as long as it runs :) if it goes bang then i will worry about it :)

Just check and change when needed all the usual serviceable items,
and regular oil changes mate, I think the oil should be
5w-30 semi or fully synthetic,,personally I would stick with semi..
unless your on extremely low mileage..

Just do what your doing and keep your ears and eyes on things..
Just my opinion though mate..its up to you really..

Hi , mine sounds very similar to the first vid , that has a plastic panel vibe type sound that goes when i slightly increase the revs , around the timing chain cover/engine mount/pulley side of the engine , been like that since i got it , the longer you drive a car , you become aware of every noise coming from the engine , I can still remember when when i first heard my td4 engine and thought how quiet and refined it sounded for a diesel , sounds like a bag of ****e now :D

a bag of ****e is one way of putting it mate :D

it sounds as though your bottom pully is going , see if there is any metal swarf around it , as that is a comon sign also you have no top cover on these quieten them down a bit.

I will have a look at the pully. No clutch as shes a auto and only run her on shell or esso diesel with 2 stroke and the millers eco max stuff

Hi teddy , bottom pulley what does that entail to fix ?

first buy a new pully then you need to lock the fly wheel, then i dropped the engin on the drivers side take the belt of the bottom pully , then undo the nut , then take it off, the hardest part is locking the crank you can get the bar that locks the flywheel , you take the starter motor off and then put the bar on , one bolt to the gearbox case and the other to the flywheel . but i made a "special" tool that holds the pully wheel while you just put the socket on and undo the nut , and it will be tight. i leant the special tool out to another freelander owner , now he can not find it to give it me back
