since having another T/C fitted, i've noticed a growl and vibration at around 2000rpm. (having said that, i did think it did start to 'growl' faintly before the T/C replacement. its there slightly in neutral but more noticeable when driving. it seems to be getting gradually worse but very slowly. then over the past couple of days, i noticed the engine shaking briefly when switching off. anyway, after trawling landyzone and the dark reaches of 'tinterweb, evidence pointed to engine mounts. apparently there should be a 10mm gap between the hole(s) in the bottom (oo-err!) and the rubber inside. this i what i found-

i'm guessing they are knackered and the cause of my vibration?
(ignore the coolant splatter- that little issue is sorted. for now...)
 
Ignoring the coolant splatter, but is that bottom one also oil-contaminated? Personally, I'd fix the oil leak before exposing a new mount to same treatment.

... but yeah, the rubber shouldn't be sitting that low in the mount.

there is an oil leak, nothing major, i think its a new rocker gasket required. another thing on the list.
remember the land rover saying- "if its not leaking oil, there's no oil in it"
 
are bearmach mounts any good?
I doubt they're much better than other aftermarkets, it's well known that for engine mounts you better bite the bullet and go for genuine...then you can rest your mind about them for few years
 
loosen the engine mounts and jack up engine and inspect mounts .

since the TC has been changed im guessing some extra stress loaded up on the front engine mounts since the transmission mounts are removed to remove gearbox .....and engine may have been angled pointing down at the rear excessively causing stress specially on old mounts

Changing engine mounts will make quite a noticeable difference. Those in the pic above are completely fu'bard. The only way is with genuine LR as there are reports other non-genuine ones are made differently inside, as they should contain oil IIRC. The cheapest genuine ones are here I think;

and having bought them some time previously I can confirm they really are genuine.

IMO it is false economy to replace with 2nd hand ones, it is not a difficult job, but not one that you would want to do more than once.
