Hi all,

After giving building my own loom, I have bought a new one from autosparks and need some help where they go as they supply no legend, so can you tell me where these go please?

Engine loom
So we have a connection block which goes to the main harness (I worked that one out)

Next branch has four wires which I believe is the starter motor? They are;
Thick brown with a ring
Two smaller browns joined with a ring
White and red with a plug
Do all of the browns just go one the one stud?

Next branch has three small wires with plugs
White - fuel shut off?
White and brown - oil pressure?
Green and blue - coolant temp?

Then the last bit has a thick brown and a yellow and brown cable, which I believe goes to the alternator but that has three studs B D+ and W

Am right in saying D+ is brown and yellow B is brown and leave W?

Many thanks
Tom

You need the wiring diagram. This is in the workshop manual or available online. Don’t you have the old loom in situ to compare?

Unfortunately not, I have got the diagram and mystery even did a full colour version for me....
The problem I have is there is more wires than what’s on the diagram and with not having an old loom to compare to it makes my headache even worse

Fortunately these engines are very simple electrically and they're all standard Lucas colours.

First branch: Brown wires with ring terminals all go to the starter motor. These are the main feeds to the battery and the starter motor is used as a junction point. the thick one will end up at the alternator and the other two go into the main plug to the rest of the car. White/Red is for the starter solenoid.

Second Branch: White is ignition live and goes to the fuel stop solenoid. White/Brown is the input from the oil pressure switch, and Green/Blue is to the coolant temperature sensor.

Third Branch: Brown is the feed from the alternator (which connects to the starter motor as mentioned above) and goes to the B terminal. Brown/Yellow is for the charge warning light and connects to D+. The W terminal is only used if you have a rev counter.

Thank god for that, that’s what I’ve gone for, but it’s always worth double checking.

Many thanks for the detailed explanation though, it clears things up in my little mind.
