I'm going to swap back to viscous also.

I've been thinking about it for a while and it gets highlighted over the summer months, but recently it has been hard to keep her cool.

Today for instance I have opened the bonnet whenever we stopped in between lanes.

It has not helped that I have recently had to change to thermo switch as the other one packed up. I use an OEM aircon fan switch fitted into the thermo housing cap in the OEM position, but the one I have got this time comes in at a different temperature to the old one, and now it is too hot by the time the fans come in for them to be able to cool it down again, whereas before they were able to keep on top of it.

Also one of my fans has just popped a bearing! :D

Seeing as I don't wade like crazy anymore (novelty worn off) id rather have the viscous for better reliability and cooling.

Will stick it back on and give it a tester anyway.

Cheers! :D

Cheers for your input Sam. Yeah, as you know I've had m fair share of wading mishaps anyhows, so come to the conclusion its far easier just to fit a new viscous unit after-all, n forget about DEEP water.
I'm assuming the larger threaded disco 3.9 viscous unit will bolt onto the fan off the RRC 3.9, once I've removed the smaller threaded original viscous unit??

...might need your help at a later date Sam....The 3.9 Disco engine thats just gone in to the RRC bobtail is quite a bit more different than I first thought, and most of the serpentine belt assembly is missing too:doh: Got the tensioner assembly, alternator and power steering pump with correct serp' pulleys but I reckon there's some framework missing:doh::doh:

I think all the fans are the same but tbh I'm not sure.

Also I have a 3.5 with multi v belts, not the serp belt!

But I'll help you all I can where possible :)

DOU!..sorry mate, made the assumption yours was serp type.
Yeah, I thought the threads were all same size too, til I came to try fitting it. The one on this serp engine is defo a bit larger, about a 1/16 larger approx', so not much. still L/H thread tho.
I bought a disco haynes manual n doin some research... Other than the changes in some plug design and location of things like fuel & coolant temp n throttle position sensors, it looks like the only thing I'm missing is a frame or spacer type assembly to hold the power steering pump I got, which is different to the earlier RRC/Rover SD1 type...which will be fun to find!:(...:rolleyes:.
