just got a break and saw this... did you actually fix things to have the feed to ECM or bypassed the relay?

if you fixed it put ignition on II and fully depress consecutively the throttole 5 times and listen near the engine...you should hear like an air purge there, when it stops crank it without touching the throttle and if it doesnt start try with fully depressed throttle but not for long... if no joy wait for the diagnostic but i suspect that as you tried so many times to start it without joy the engine is or starved or flooded the it will not start

i presume there will be many fault codes stored due to all your tests so disregard the injector or feed related codes, if there will be that "topside switch..." or "checksum error" the it's definitely the ECM gone

Something I moved caused power to return, so there's a bad/loose connection there to contend with as well.

Thanks, but I'm done with it, tbh. It's time to turn it over to someone more familiar with these things.

I don't know why your convinced it's the ECU ? They are pretty tuff realy, when you drown them when off roading if you dry them out straight away they are fine!

For it to suddenly stop like that I would be looking for a faulty connection, broken wire, blocked diesel filter or in tank pump.

I have had the main 30amp (fuse under seat) wire that feeds the yellow relay for the in tank pump short where it goes through the bulk head but if this happens your temp gauge goes straight up into the red !

Also had the pump go but was still humming away nicely, bitch would'nt start for love nor money! Took a good 30 seconds of cranking to get going again once changed (& bleaded) !

OK m8, let's hope the guy is more competent than those who you spoke with untill now cos as long as there was no feed to the ECM before i doubt that it's gone cos they used to fail if they miss earth not feed.. anyway GOOD LUCK

Let us know how you get on ! personaly don't have much faith in garages where you are after what you have already told us

Shame that nobody could pop round with nanocom but I suppose that's the down side of living on a small Island with cat's with no tails :)

Sigh... No more suggestions, please.
People who have read the thread right through will be aware (even if some have forgotten it since; it's understandable) that the EMU is outputting precisely ZERO volts to the injectors, so how anyone can expect checking the fuel pump to make any difference is beyond me.

i didnt want to annoy you but when you said that there's no feed to the injectors there was no feed to the ECM either and that's normal and you didnt say you've checked the injector output after you've got feed to the ECM which is different matter...the fact that it spluttered was a sign:rolleyes:

And it's beyond me it's taken you 17 pages of people telling you to get your fault codes read !!

Only mentioned the fuel pump, relays etc as these are common problems with TD5's !!

I think you'll find I said it *didn't* even sputter (if I didn't my apologies). Sure I rechecked it whilst monitoring there were volts on those 3 orange brown wires just in case they went intermittent again. Nevertheless, NO action on the injector front!!:p

It's gone now. Someone just took it away. Maybe I'll never see it again....;)

yes, i misunderstood that splutter thing:eek: it's cos english is my 3'rd language(out of 5)... i'll wait to see what's the outcome

Right, then. My bet is that the ECU has packed up; a view I took some time ago.
Anyone else like to make a prediction as to what the problem will eventually turn out to be?
I thought I saw a 'poll' feature on here somewhere but it must have been some other site. Pity; could have come in handy.

Ah, well you're probably from the low countries, then. They typically speak 5 languages. I'd never have known anyway. Well done!:)

under thread tools ;)

i vote for a bad connection/wire break

At first I thought this thread was a joke when the OP wasn't sure which engine was fitted even though it had TD5 emblazoned on the engine cover. Then when the main LR dealer claimed it had a timing belt which might have snapped, more or less confirmed my suspicion.

BTW the plastic engine cover reduces noise levels a bit, if you look underneath it there is some noise absorbing foam.

I still do ! For somebody that used to buy & sell series 11 & 111's, if you read the OP's other post's he bought it in October 2012 !!

You came to this rather long thread late in the day so you probably missed the post where I stated that the conflicting information I was getting from different sources was leading me to suspect that this vehicle was a bodge-up that been made up from disparate stolen parts from other models. Not a nice feeling, that!

It's all gone quiet?

Yup. Still waiting to hear back on it. I'll give 'em til the end of today and if nothing still heard I'll phone 'em tomorrow. I don 't want to push it as they've kind of given me to understand that it will be cheaper if they simply fit it in when they can rather than prioritize it.
BTW, this is a new place I haven't contacted previously. The guy that runs it used to work for the local main LR dealers but set up on his own a while back. Got quite a big place and uses Autologic diagnostics (any good?) so at least he isn't one of the people that gave me duff info about the TD5 like ALL the others did!
