hi chaps, ive got an old series3 with a j10 diesel that is putting out plums of white smoke, and i mean lots. any ideas. it stil runs ?.

is it only when its cold or all the time?
what does the smoke smell of?
how quickly does it dissapate?
have you got water in your oil (mayo on filler cap)?
is oil or smoke leaking from the breather on top of the rocker?

If the white smoke smells of paraffin, it could be that your timing needs to be advanced.

Have you had the fuel pump off at all, and if so, did you put it back where it should be?? A few degrees can make all the difference!

if its running its doing it
no smell
goes after few seconds [15-20]
very small amount of vapor from rocker
