I have been researching this problem but nothing has worked so far .
I have a 1998 p38 petrol , When I purchased the car the key fob buttons had been removed. I just lock and unlock the truck manually . Today I got an Engine Immobilised message . As I cant use the fob I went straight to the EAK code but this is not working ( Yes I am turning 4 to the Lock position to start the code )

I disconnected the battery and drained the power to the system , reconnected the battery but same fault and same outcome when entering the EAK code . Im at a loss .

Any Ideas ?

Cheers .

A good place to start is by testing the door latch microswitches. Use Marty's test sheet. If any of the three switches are defective, you won't be able to enter the code.
You are waiting for the message to dissappear from the dash before you try the process aren't you?
Anyone near you ( lovely Byron Bay in Aus) with a Nano who can plug in and help?

Is the side light warning light illuminating each time you turn the key when entering the code? If not the the micro switch isn't sending the code to the becm.Open a conversation with Mozz Smith,he's the man to help.

I got her mobile , Not sure what occurred , I disconnected the battery and reconnected it with key in position II then did the code and she came to life .

hi matt , firstly im a man =mozz . ok lets carry on the best thing for you is to download RAVE ,, this will give you a lot of answers and help !!!!! anyway sounds as though you need to get your keyfobs refurbed asap , send me your e-mail address and I will send you my re-sync programme ,,, next ,,, as far as eas is concerned I have a new eas plug and play piece of kit with all the leads for p.c. link and dvd etc etc ,this you can have for free ,, but you must compare and check your eas equipment on your car to see if it matches RAVE ,,,, I take it your car is a 1999 4.6 v8 thor engine ???? correct or not , ok mate im off to bed now as its 12.30 am in sunny Manchester so will check on here in the morning ... ok matt have good day ,regards Mozz

My email address is PM, Im thinking of covering my receiver in tinfoil as the problem seams to happen when in a public car park ( happened again today but I used the method I had previously used and it started) What do you think ?

I'd send that e-mail by PM, unless you wished to be swamped in spam ...

hi matt if your sync is dropping out at garages etc then its your r.f. receiver in boot , check it out that its all plugged in properly ??? its at the rear right side under the plastic window / parcel shelf trim ,, if its got a blue circle sticker then that's the original and need 3rd generation upgrade i.e. green sticker , not cheap in uk that is if u can find one ,,,main stealer price about £ 240 ...!!!!!!!!!! I know its a joke but that's the joy of owning a rangie ,, but alas for is now not owning a rangie ,,got meself a nice new normal 4x4 ,,, as previous stated brianp 38dse states there is a cheaper way of getting around it !!!!!! also good to check out door microswitches too ,, ok mate don't forget RAVE is ideal for you to check all the issues for comparing , cheers mozz p.s. have sent you e-mail !!!!

Tried that! Didn't work for me. My brother ****ed himself when he first saw what I'd done.

I believe the micro switch is faulty . Sometimes when I manually lock the truck the central locking fails and I am only able to operate the drivers door lock. When I fiddled with the wires attached to the lock the central locking came back and I was able to get her started . Im guessing I just need to replace the micro switch ??

Don't know if they are available, you may have to go for a lock, have you tried stripping it down and cleaning the micro switches? People have had success doing that. TRUCK indeed:eek: it's a Range Rover not a Road Train.;):D

hey al , bruce thinks his "truck"is a Sheila !!!!!! ha ha ha ,, anyway matt nevermind , so carry forward before you start stripping microswitches out , check down behind bottom of A frames in front footwells reveal the white connectors and give them good clean and spray with electrical contact spray !!!!! NOT wd40 , never use this **** on a rangie ,,, once cleaned and dry . try operating micro switches repeatedly see if ok , cos lot of times all connectors in rangie get damp and get the dreaded green disease wich I believe is called "oxydization " im sure someone will put me right !!!!! a lot of these damp problems need a process of elimination first before ripping stuff out and changing them and then finding out after blowing lots of dollars that they were ok and it was afterall weak or bad electrical connection ,,, wich IS the biggest and most common problem on the overdesigned electrical and over complicated installation electrical appliances on the P38 , that many on here think the original designers were high on sheep dip or something alike when they created that monster !!!!!!!!! ok matt by the way its mozz not muzz ????? ave u been on the sheep dip ???????????? .carry on and best of luck , cheers MOZZ .

"Green Goo", in household electrics has been attributed to a plasticizer within the pvc sheathing leaching out.
This plasticizer reacts with copper.
(I think the cables are made better nowadays.)

Although nothing to do with cars, household PVC cabling deteriorates if it touches polystyrene cavity insulation.
