Landy-ads

My 110 CSW is fitted with a transit DI engine which runs nice (noisy b'std tho') but has a strange problem - when you slow down and come to a stop at lights or something the engine sometimes revs up for a couple of seconds on its own then settles down again. It ain't really a major issue but just interested if anyone else has had/seen this.

I know this ain't a standard engine but it looks like it has a similar Lucas injection pump to the 2.5n/a and turbo, so the general principle should be the same.

Still got this problem. Cmon guys, has anyone got the faintest clue what could be causing it cos i wnat to sell the Landy and would like to fix it first.

Is it the injection pump? (Guvnor playing up or sumfin)

It sounds like your idle speed governer is damaged or jammed with gunk.

I have just stripped my old Lucas down and found various problems with it including springs clogged with metal etc...

sounds to me like air is getting into the fuel system, check for leaks and all pipes are tight and secure.

That possibility had occurred to me as well, i am pretty certain it happens more often when there is a low level of fuel in the tank. Also, when fuel gets very low (i.e. at or above the top of the red), if you go round a sharp corner or something the engine sometimes runs out of fuel momentarily. Almost like fuel is being drawn from the side of the tank rather than the bottom.

Is there anywhere that air would get trapped in the system before getting into the high pressure side?

I guess i could try bleeding the injectore pump as a start.

Where the air leaves the filter and enters the pump is where you need to look, the filter head can manage air, so what you need to do is take the pipe from the filter to the pump off and wrap some PTFE or some thread sealer round the unions (olives or threads - whichever is creating the seal in your setup) . Screw the lot back together, bleed the system with the little bleed nipple on the injection pump and go for a run.

Also, where you have the air automatic leak off system on top of the filter, unto the banjo bolt and check that the little pin hole is clear, if this blocks the air cannot escape and its forced through the pump.
