what do you have an why , how good is it and would you buy it again ?

I need an engine hoist to pull a v8 out a disco, a 2.5 TD out a ninety and put the v8 into the ninety. its going to take me a while on my own and the crane from work is only availible over weekends and must be back on a monday morning incase its needed - given i cycle to work mostly then that means battling the traffic in the van twice a week :(

looking at the clarke 1 tonne job but the nearest machine mart is over 100 miles away to have a gander at it - is it man enough for the job at hand.

haha - im licenced for a 10 tonne counterbalance but all we have is a sideloader on site which ironically im not allowed to drive :(

my neighbour has a ford classic tractor - i fail to see how thats going to help me remove it other than if i tie the tractor to the engine directly and play tug of war !

I've got an a-frame and block n tackle that my dads dad made many moons ago, works a treat. The thing with the cranes is they generally don't lift high enough to get the engine out and the further the arm extends less weight can be lifted.

A frame sounds good - actually.

The block and tackle aint expensive and i could probably build something.

Could probably make something out of a few bits of scaffold to make a frame then run the tackle off that

exactly what i was thinking - scaffold frame . infact - my dad has scaffolding and an electric hoist he mentioned in the store. neighbours can just deal with the scaffolding stuff em .

improvised a-frame for lifting, tied onto back of a vehicle to provide lifting force.

get a good block and tackle ;)

Watch out for the cheaper cranes, they dont have the reach or lift capacity, I ended up getting a long reach high lift crane but then we use it quite often and replace engines in all manner of stuff up to 5T so kinda need it anyway...

Dont forget you can hire cranes for about £30 a pop...

I have an Sip 1 ton crane. It easily lifts high enough but personally i wouldnt go with them again. Its the same as the sealy crane pretty much so i would avoid that as well.

The quality of the product just isnt the same as a more expensive brand
