French? I thought they were made in Northern Ireland by an American mob boss and paid for by the British taxpayer.

Col

The engine was Renault V6 made in France, and it was rubbish. The gearbox was a modification of a 1.8 Renault Fuago, was French built, and again was rubbish.
The chassis was made in NI, but was actually designed by Lotus, being very similar to the Esprit backbone design. The suspension was also of Lotus design, suitably ruined for the American market.
The body was made in NI, and was mainly glass fibre, just like Lotus vehicles of the period. The glass fibre body was then covered in a ground stainless steel skin, which gave it that distinctive look.

A code scan won't show up a faulty low pressure fuel pump, which is why I asked you to listen for it running.
A code read won't show up split high pressure regulator O rings.

Both of these are very likely issues, which can stop it starting.

The AA bloke is talking out of his ass.
Any suggestions please. The car still doesn’t turn on despite changing the low pressure fuel pump.

Changed the low pressure fuel pump & the filter. No change to the issue. Any other suggestions?

Can you hear the new pump running? If so you need a diagnostic device to display the low rail fuel pressure. This needs to be above 250kPa or the engine will not start.

Did you change the fuel filter? If not this could be responsible for a low pressure in the low rail, which again will prevent it starting.

If the low rail pressure is correctly over 250kPa, preferably 350kPa, then move to the next thing to replace.

The next thing to replace is the high pressure regulator O rings, which can split causing non start situations.

Change these, but only after you've ascertained that the low pressure supply is correct.

Come back after this is done, if there's still an issue, or it's solved.

thanks. We had changed both the low pressure fuel pressure pump LR023043 (Hope this is the right one) & the filter. Yes, can hear the pump now, loud & clear :). Will get back to you with the rest of the steps.

I used to have an Australian friend who bought a Delorean DMC-12 in 94 IIRC. That thing was hideously unreliable. We couldn't even go to the pub, without lifting the engine cover for some "tweaking" before the thing would start.

You wouldn't believe the number of times I heard the words "It's your flux capacitor mate" while my head under the engine cover. Bloody French junk, wouldn't even start after a simple trip the the pub, without making a drama out of it.

Good times though, even though at the time it wasn't much fun.
Sadly the deal was done on the engine years before the grass was even cut on green field site in Belfast. It was fit for the job at that time (of the deal) but the car gained weight and US emissions reqs required further strangling - thats a story in itself...before it got to the forcourt. The result an under powered not very reliable ( well it was french to start with) engine.

I have had P1260 stored due to low pressure pump failure and low pressure.
Check the actual output as above then report back.

thanks, will check that & report back. The low pressure fuel pump makes a proper sound when the keys are turned on? What I mean is that the sound is pretty prominent than ever before.Just wanted to ensure that it is the right replacement I got low LR023043 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Electric-Remote-Fuel-Pump-inc-Fuel-Filter-for-Land-Rover-Freelander-1-TD4-02-on/272239888501?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649). Do I have to buy a genuine one from LR then?
I believe the after market pumps are much louder than OEM but should still work.

You want to avoid cheap aftermarket pumps off Ebay and use a genuine one instead. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141997244566

I changed the low pressure fuel pump to the original one Nodge68 suggested. Still no changes. The pump works (again loud & clear sound, much more that the original one ever did). Don't know what else can I do? Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Have you searched through the forum? There are similar threads every week or two so lots of others in the same situation.
Injectors are a common issue, might be worth doing a leak off test

If it's still not starting, then the next thing to replace is the high pressure regulator O rings, which is very cheap, although fiddly.
